Thanks. Luckily it was a car with enough gonads to make use of it. On Top Gear it ranked between an Audi R8 and Noble M12 GTO-3R. Not bad for a car that is a fraction of the price...

What made you get out of cars?

What made you get out of cars?

They only costed me money and after costing me money, they cost me more money. I was into cars for 15 years, if i were to guess how much money i dumped into it, i'd guess over 300k. That's a damned house.

Then i got into photography. I lost all interest in cars, i don't even change my own oil anymore. I drive a freakin' Honda Fit and i couldn't be happier. It's all about Point A to Point B.

I remember attending a POTN meet like 5 years ago with a guy Steve xxx i think his name is/was. He used to be on here all the time. Anyway, i'm not saying his car was a piece of crap, it was a fine car, but i'm sure it cost less than has 500mm lens. That's when it really struck a chord with me.

It purely became a Point A to Point B thing for me. I can't imagine paying 40k for a car now... i guess everyone's priorities are different. But i know that i treat a car like it's purely utilitarian now. Who am i trying to impress? Just get me there in 1 piece and i'm happy.

Funny sidebar - When i photograph weddings at really nice hotels, they always valet my car and put it way in the back some where. I just laugh... sorry i don't drive a Bentley, i'm working on it. :)

What's up for next week, anything?

I'm working tomorrow because the Senate is in session. Anyone around in the area early morning or afternoon? Bringing my camera just for kicks.

I'll be doing a few engagement sessions. I wish i was free to hang out. This season is turning out to be rather crazy, didn't seem that way in January.

We picked up a big Indian wedding in Pittsburgh. I'm looking forward to shooting in a new city.

Did you ever end up picking up one of those Holdfast straps? I love mine, though i haven't used it professionally yet. I'm planning to use it this weekend.

Lol... I moved here to Boston partly because there's public transportation. I didn't want to worry about car payments or repair bills. Never been a big fan of driving. Had a car at 16 and didn't care much then, either. I turned my parents down twice when they offered to buy me a new car after high school and college graduation. Been living here more than 10 years now and I don't quite need one yet... especially since my wife has a car - that's all we need.

I got the Chestnut color one. It needs a bit of breaking in, but I like it a lot. Of course, as soon as I got it, I started applying some leather conditioner to it. I might apply some shoe cream to darken it, too... but I need to pick up some balm to make sure none of it comes off on my shirt.

I'm around all day except the evening. I'm not sure what the weather is going to be though.

True... it's pretty nasty outside today and I didn't want to go out for lunch. Cosi's in our building and it was packed.

Not sure if tomorrow is a real work day or a fake one... depends if the Senate is moving forward with discussions on this transportation package. <end conversation here to avoid political conversation>

I'll be between the State House, Bowdoin Square and Post Office Square... if Andrew's in, I'll stop by there for coffee.

Yeah, it was a fun time. But it started to define who i was. I didn't like that. It turned into having all car friends, car discussions, car parts, repairing parts, replacing engines, brake pads, turbo's, ecu's, car forums, speeding tickets... it really was my everything.

Then one day i said screw this, what is it giving back to me? Nothing. Also tastes change with age, i suppose that played a factor as well.

Photography has been a fun hobby and a fun business for the most part. But this too will run it's course in due time. I'm sure. I won't be able to abandon it entirely like cars, but even on this trip to Ireland, i took a total of 17 photographs. At least for me, running a business has changed the way i deal with the hobby.

YMMV

I think that's part of the reason that I'm really much more inclined to keep it (photography) as a hobby and not actively pursuing jobs, etc.

****tsburgh is a dump!

That is all I have to say about that city, and the state it is in...well lets not go there!

Ironically, my wife and I had to buy a car when I moved here... Never needed one in the UK, but the public transportation is ghastly horrible here, yet we still use it. But to do anything around the city, you need a car. I couldn't imagine being in a city with no public transportation.

Public transportation is not something to brag about in Boston, that's for certain. You are able to get around the city just fine, though... not sure what you're talking about. Timing, however, is an issue and if you're late for a train/bus or if they're late for you - could screw up your entire plans.

Service, condition, cleanliness, maintenance, wear&tear, timetable, you name it. Go to any other city with similar public transportation in the world, i.e. bus service, tube/underground, commuter rail, etc. then tell me how Boston isn't a laughing stock at the state of their public transport system.
