So I've only been in Hunts once, is it the type of place that you have a little room to barter down a price on used items or are they pretty firm?

I am not a supporter of Hunts and never will be. Commission or not. They try to rip you off just as much as Calumet does with commission and online prices. Not a nice business practice. B&H and Adorama all the way for me.

I live next door to the flagship one in Melrose...so I go in to physically see stuff. I am happy to order from B&H / Adorama. I don't make enough money to pay highly marked up prices in-store.

tax free too, can't beat that!

I've had one experience with used from B&H and it wasn't the best. I bought my 28-135 3.5-5.6 from them and it showed up full of dust and dirt. They took it back without a hassle but it took a little over a week for them to "receive" it then another two days to issue credit

Down in the sticks of the South Shore(Hanover).

Yeah I kind of get that, the guy was asking me if I was going to pick up a 5D3. Quoted a price of $6000 for one, I told him I'd rather pick up a used 1Dslll/85L or a new M9 for that price. Actually I'd pay off the remainder of my car note and free up some monthly scratch.

The receipt says Jeff, I've dealt with him before and seems a decent enough guy.

Yeah, IIRC jeff's the manager. I've had pretty good dealings with him. I went in to pick up a bag for my tripod legs and one guy told me they were being sold as part of a package kit; I went back in when Jeff was working and he sold me the bag without issue (though it didn't have tags on it so he couldn't find the model number. It was funny watching him call his sup for a number that was printed on the back of the bag) :D
