from anywhere?

hahahahahahaha

Yeah, that's when I thought it was funny. I could understand ON their property, and I would happily leave if asked...but you can't tell me what to do on public property..he was like "Well since 9/11 ya know, terrorists could be doing things" ... I asked him if I seemed like a terrorist, and he wasn't sure what to say.. haha..you know..those press credentials around my neck give it away..i'm definitely a terrorist!

If you don't have the press pass can you still take picture? Lol
I do have a question about taking picture of a celebrity though. When they were filming the zoo keeper right next to my house I wanted to take pictures of kevin James standing on my porch and one the guys told me I can't. But the questions is can i?

If you're on your porch (aka your property), and you can see him unobstructed or without means to circumvent security, i.e. climbing onto your roof, etc to shoot over a temporary barricade/fence, etc, they have absolutely no right to tell you what you can/cant do on your property. Example - if they put up a temporary fence and you cant shoot from your front porch, but you walk upstairs to a second story balcony or legitimate roof access and shoot, I still think you're OK.

My concern would be a scenario where you don't have roof access and climbed a ladder or a fire escape or something, then you're circumventing their security by using your property as it is not intended, which I BELIEVE they may be able to get you for, but again, if it's your property, you'd have to file the complaint against yourself, which I doubt you would do. Plus, if it's a rental property, then you'd technically be in unauthorized parts of the domicile/dwelling and then there would be means for action.

The only exception to this, I believe, would be taking videos or photos during the actual process of filming, but I'm not 100% sure even that would be an issue (the studio would be in charge of creating a secure scene by which you wouldn't be able to watch and film/photograph it, if they failed to do so, that's their bad).

I didn't cercumvent any parameters it's out in the open and I was on my first floor and second floor porch. The guy wouldn't even let me take pictures of James walking out of the trailer. What a dick! I wasn't sure what the rules on these matters.

Anything viewable from a public space is essentially fair game....there are few things that are not..but it's a grey area...if you're in the public park and you saw him, you could've taken as many photos as you want, despite whatever anyone was telling you. You do not need a press ID.

It depends. I think most people understand the general issues around privacy and standing on public versus private property. My question to you is whether the film production had the legal right to close off public streets and make them inaccessible to the public (including you). You may have limited right to access your home, but in that scenario you may not have had the right to stand on the street and take photos of a private video shoot. From inside your home is a different matter.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Yeah, the thing that irked me about that was that Andy was on his property, etc. If someone ever came up to me on my property and was like 'hey, stop doing what you're doing', I'd basically tell them to call the cops if what I was doing was wrong, etc. I learned that one from Scott. :)

Well, if they were armed and they came onto my property to try to "make" me do anything, then yeah, I probably would shoot first, ask questions later, but in most cases, you can only use deadly force when there is a reasonable threat to your life (and last time I checked, not knowing if someone was armed or not wasn't reasonable, even in your own house).

Dont forget, this is America. If you break into my house and take naked pictures of my wife, and I try to tackle you and end up pushing you the stairs in our main foyer and you break your neck, not only can you sue me for bodily harm, but you retain the copyright to the images.

Of course, good luck with the model release, even I can't get that!

Thanks guys.

Max - sure thing. I joined "Mass Tuning" on Facebook so I could see the upcoming events.
I'm always down for anything though - esp. car related stuff.

And if you shorten my SN, you can just stick with "San" - that's my last name.
