I picked mine up towards the end of 2012. Not sure how it compares to Canon's 50L, but with a MA of -3 on m 5D2, I've been told by Jeremy (Capture in Moments) that it's tack sharp during my wedding portraits.

My Sigma 35 is my favorite lens now.

Andrew - Do you feel like you need a 50 and 35?

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

I usually have the 35mm on the 5D2, 50mm on the 7D.
But yes, I know people think that the FLs are too close, but I haven't had issues.

The way youre using it you have a 35 and an 80, which is an excellent combo.

Yeah, but then I have an Canon 85mm f/1.8, which becomes redundant if I use it on FF. If I use it on the 7D, it becomes 136mm, which isn't bad. I don't notice myself using the 85mm on the 7D much tho.

I was up in NH over the weekend and tried my hand in astrophotography, man its no joke practice makes perfect, shots came out horrible.

All the more incentive to try again somewhere with little light pollution.

No, this was in an area of low light pollution. about 45 mins south there is minimal light pollution but I wasn't heading in that direction. The photo is a single 20s shot.

The rule of thumb is, as not to get startrails, 600/focal length.

So using a 24II, the max exposure time would 600/24 = 25s Anything over that would require (a) stacking or (b) Astrotrac - which would be fantastic to have some time.

600/focal length.

What does the 600 signify?

Edit: And I'm assuming that math would work 600/Xmm*crop factor?

Not sure where the 600 came from, never really looked into it.

the maths is simple 600 / focal length.

It doesn't matter what the crop factor is, the focal length is still the same.

Doesn't focal length get multiplied with crop factor?

So a 17mm focal lengh would be 27.2mm (17x1.6)

Medium-Format Canon? Any thoughts?

http://www.canonrumors.com …looking-to-medium-format/ (external link)

Since I have been out of work and reading a lot of photography books the medium-format cameras have become appealing to me. Yesterday this rumor came out, which was nice to read. The price tag of the current ones on the market are way up there. If true, I'm hoping Canon can come out with something 10 or under, and have the quality of the higher rate ones.

Of course, there is nothing I need a medium-format camera for, besides making a book in the future, but we all have our hobbies...
