Doesn't focal length get multiplied with crop factor?

So a 17mm focal lengh would be 27.2mm (17x1.6)

no, focal length stays the same.

look at it in terms of a 4:3 tv and a widescreen tv. with a 4:3 tv (aka crop frame camera) you miss out on a bit on the sides and up top, but the focus is still on the same spot. with a FF camera, you get extra bits, but nothing changes. your zoom, focal length etc. stay the same.

with 5D2, you may want to drop down to ISO 1600, and maybe open up the lens a little more towards f/1.4 to get the same results with minimal noise - I went with my settings to get the wind towers in focus too.

Medium-Format Canon? Any thoughts?

http://www.canonrumors.com …looking-to-medium-format/ (external link)

Since I have been out of work and reading a lot of photography books the medium-format cameras have become appealing to me. Yesterday this rumor came out, which was nice to read. The price tag of the current ones on the market are way up there. If true, I'm hoping Canon can come out with something 10 or under, and have the quality of the higher rate ones.

Of course, there is nothing I need a medium-format camera for, besides making a book in the future, but we all have our hobbies...

A complete used Hasselblad setup could be had for under 9k. A H3DII-31 body can be had for about $6k plus a nice 100mm 2.2 lens for about $2.5k. A 1DX plus say a 70-200L II comes in not too far away from that. Just letting you know, it's not as prohibitively expensive as it may seem.

I really don't like to buy used so I end up limiting myself, trying to change my mind about being that way! I just feel like I would buy something that would have a very limited lifespan.

Hell no, i wish. I could have saved a bundle if i had. Hasselblad has a 'clean and check' program also which they can check stuff out for fairly cheap money...

I was up in NH over the weekend and tried my hand in astrophotography, man its no joke practice makes perfect, shots came out horrible.

All the more incentive to try again somewhere with little light pollution.

Yeah it's really tough to get right. If you have a fisheye, you can get away with everything up to about 30 seconds.

this is 20 seconds, f/4, canon 15mm + 5d3 from saturday night.

The wife and I went to Deer Island Park last night to check out the meteor shower. Was decent, we stayed from 1am to 2am. Saw about 20 or so fly by. After that we got bored and came back home. I never tried this astro photography. I have to give it a shot one day.

This is what I got from Canon:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support regarding the repair results of your EOS 7D.

Your product has been examined and it was found that the AF assembly had been impacted has been inspected per your request. Adjustments were made on the AF assembly. Also, the exposure, focus & Shutter Speed were adjusted. The firmware was also updated. The CMOS sensor and Checked all to factory specs.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Cool, so there was an issue. Did they tell you how much to fix yet?
