The number crunching is simple. For the phone I'm interested in, it's $199 down or $27/mo for 20 months, with the option to get a new phone in a year if I want one. I'd spend that in a little over 7 months, with 13 months left after that to pay (an additional $351). Obviously not worth it.

AT&T doesn't want you to know that usually after 18 months you can be eligible to re-up for most phones (including iPhones), but if you squawk enough or have a legitimate issue, they can usually re-up you after a year.

also what they don't tell you too is that you give the phone back, and get the next new one.

when your are normally up for a new phone, you still keep your old one.

so they basically get a free phone that you've over paid for and they can then send that one out.

I use my old phones and hook them up to those speakers etc. for wifi-internet music. and they can still do emergency calls too if needs be.

Yeah, or sell them for darn close to what you paid for them (I could probably get ~$150 on fleabay or locally if I really wanted to, or even $40 if I sent it to a company like Gazelle, which is basically a waste).

Go with Verizon. Just sayin'

The Verizon EDGE program is pretty similar to AT&T's Next program. I consider it leasing the latest phone that you want and upping every year. You don't have to trouble yourself with all the reselling on ebay or Craigslist - and Bernie I know you hate that hassle.

How is the speed with LR5? I'm running a Late 2008 MacBook Aluminum with 4GB's of RAM and it lags quite a bit in LR4.

I'm running a late 2008 Macbook unibody with 8GBs of RAM (enabled by a little known EFI firmware update).

LR4 speed is fine for me. It was a little laggy before, but I found an online tip that says to disable XMP autowrite. That really cured it for me.

Also.. from what I saw in the CPS thing I got sent.. looks like this might take place September 30th.. if that's the case.. do current Gold members get bumped up to 5 CMS requests (formerly known as clean and checks) on the spot?

I believe us current goldmembers will get upgraded to 5, minus any already used on your year to date useage

That would make up for missing out on them last year... and then when I re-up in February, I can get everything else checked out. Not bad.

Hi, can you give me a suggestion for a good local photo print place, or does everyone send them out to mpix etc...?

^I use adorama. REALLY good experiences with them so far, have ordered stuff at odd times (saturday 7pm, Friday 11pm) and had it not only printed, but shipped the NEXT DAY as well (aka a sunday by 11 and a saturday by noon). The quality was awesome, the prices cheap, and the service phenomenal.

Really good way to wake up to 9/11. My power was out this A.M. Turns out a construction truck working on tearing down the old high school hit a power line and knocked out power to our entire block. It just came back on. sigh...

MPIX for some things, but if you want a really really high end print, Panopticon Imaging in Rockland is the place to go.

Alright - I'm gonna be sending Lightroom 5 back to BH. I don't have a convincing case to keep it.
