Kevan:
Several classical elements are represented in your lovely tonal capture. Though there is limited action, there is enough to keep me busy. Meandering dark ripples anchor the image and slowly dissipate moving upward and into warmer tones. Nicely done. Nitpick: though small, the item upper left of frame distracts. Also, there appears to be some orange clipping in the ocean. Not drastic, but I see a little.
Jason C

Them's boids. I hemmed and hawed about leaving them or cloning 'em out, and opted for keeping 'em. I'd be curious what others think; should they be rubbed out? I'm not sure what you mean by the orange clipping, Jason. There is centerish-top, a distant but strong reflection or beacon of some sorts; is that it? Maybe that too should be removed. I intentionally shot the horizon set high in the frame so as compliment the spacing of the wave pattern below. I hope that was successful. The term "Classical Elements" is in reference to the four elements: land, water, air and fire. I sorta took poetic license on the element of fire, what with the light being what it was 'n all.

Nice job, Jean-Guy. Neat entries everyone.

I luvs boids, and I love the image as it is. The high horizon is great - really adds a lot of impact for me - subtle but powerful. Well done!

Garry............... May you pack two days of livin' into every day you're given.

Congratulations Jean-Guy & Matt, and to Jason for the interesting subject and detailed comments. I thought we'd get far more entries for this one, given the number of elements available.

Jason, you're quite right about the cloning in my shot, it was a quick and clumsy job that I only just noticed when you pointed it out. One can get fixated on getting one part of an image right and have a blind spot to more obvious faults as I did in this case. Regardless, the owner of the foot was very pleased to be called "young lady".

Re your "nitpicks" on borders and watermarks, Jason, I suggest it might be a good idea to add a "no borders" rule as in the longer-running G-series weekly challenge.

It's a matter of opinion, but I think that so many images are spoiled by distracting and often unsuitable borders, making it very hard for judges to disassociate the content from the border.

BTW, Maureen, loved your shot but it must be a slight relief not to win otherwise you'd be judging two competitions at once this week:wink:.

Congrats to Jean-Guy and Matt for their winning shots and great subject, Jason.

Ha, teekay, you are right about that. :)

And Jason, you are right as well.... it was not my sharpest shot of the bunch but the best one with lava in it. I was shooting about 1/4 mile away on a very windy cliff and even the IS wasn't much help. The lack of punch was due to the the smoky skies as there was lava/fire coming from the hills behind us as well. These were the shots I was toying with...but Skip talked me out of them :)

Wow Maureen! My iPhone just rumbled and a puff of smoke came out of the ear jack hole. I like that second one.

Me too, Kev. It was quite an experience as it was not very active when we first arrived. We wee lucky enough to see the big explosion and then the full eruption at night.
