I have been trying out my new 24-105L on the 30D...this weekend I went to the rink just to see how it would all cope with the poor lighting. Didn't do too bad really, with more "keepers" than I expected. Here's a few.

Thanks! Hockey is tough, the F4.0 does not help but I wanted to try it out. Pretty impressed with how this lens performs, even compared to the (ver 1) 70-200 F2.8.

But I am not happy with the noise level. What body to get next.....sigh.

That may have been my last set of hockey pics since my son is graduating H.S., so I'm seriously thinking about a 5DMKII.

I actually shoot at f/3.5 with my f/2.8 lens for hockey and find that it could go down to f/4 and just have to bump the ISO up from 1600. I think you would see a good decrease in noise with a newer body over the 30D, especially if you go with the 5DMKII.

Good shots though, looks like the 24-105 would be a good WA lens for the corners for me if I wanted one =P

Thank you. I was in an older rink working the penalty box, and looked for opportunities to use the wide angle side of the lens as the players got close. Might be good for using as players approach the corners.

Indeed, the photos are pretty well-lit regarding that there can't be much light on such games.
