I recently picked up a rebel XTi camera which has not been used much. Was advertised that it had CF card pin damage. I tried straightening the pin, but it broke. The camera will still take pictures and store them on the card and they can be viewed. The pin that broke is the middle pin on the back row of pins(Not face side of CF card). That would be pin #13 or maybe #38 depending on which side they start #1. Is it ok to use the camera, or should I be looking for a new PCB assembly? I originally bought it for parts, as I have an XTi, but I hate to part it out if it can still be used by one of my family.

IMHO -- If it works and you can't find anything the broke pin affects -- use away. Does the Chip download to your computer OK? Sometimes electronic equipment designers do not use all of the pins available in a given connector. Maybe you were lucky this is an unused pin -- and truth is -the pin breaking off is a good thing because it probably will not impede the seating of the CF card. Good luck

Both pin 13 and 38 is VCC which provides power to the chip. It may be getting enough power, or it may be that one of them is a 3.3V rail and the other the 5V rail and the one that broke happens to be the one that the camera doesn't use.

It's working, keep using it. What broke doesn't appear to be needed, so don't worry about it.

They can be either 3.3 or 5 but not both. If one pin is present you are probably in luck as not both are needed. If it's working, you got a functional camera.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.
