Has anyone connected their 5D Mark II via HDMI? I want to connect to a computer monitor and have it mirror the back display. I am shooting in a studio environment, and want to see the review shots as they pop up. Tethering will not work for me because once tethered the camera cannot be fired with a remote trigger (I am using a timing device to fire the camera). My hope is that once a LCD is connected via HDMI the display will basically mimic the back display on the camera. I was also wondering if they both work, or just the external once connected.

Thanks!

Why don't you just use EOSutility via a long or extended cable USB?

As I stated in the original post - I do not want to tether. Once you launch EOS Utility, the only way to fire the shutter is with EOS Utility. I need the camera shutter to be controlled electronically by the Stop Shot.

Thanks.

Yes, it works fine. The receiving monitor has to figure out the size of the image. The HDMI or video output replicate what you see on the LCD in Live View. I have a 7" Lilliput LCD from Amazon, but there are several choices available of battery powered, portable monitors. Ikan, Sony, Marshall to name a few; I also have the much smaller Aputure Gigtube which is lower resolution and size. These monitors do not have as many pixels as the 5DII LCD, but do provide a decent Live View picture. They were developed for the dSLR video market.

Thanks Mike. One question... if I am not using Live View, do I still get the 'review' images after each shot? The only time I use Live View in the studio is when I am precision focusing, other times it just wastes battery, and slows down the camera. :-)

Thanks for the info. I have a cable on order, but am putting off picking up the monitor until I make sure it's going to work. I will probable go with a 22" screen.

Thanks!

The HDMI monitor will show everything that your LCD normally displays. The camera LCD will not show anything if the HDMI is plugged in.
Actually Live View silent shooting has an advantage over MLU. LV SS uses an electronic first curtain, so the mirror stays up the entire time and the exposure is purely electronic, no moving parts. The shutter closing ends the exposure and then reopens again for LV. Thus if you use MLU now, with LV you can eliminate that MLU delay and shoot with immediate response using a remote.
