Just wondering if anyone has used this site to advertise their services. If so, what are your thoughts?

I've recently expanded into the wedding world and want to get my name out in those circles. Seems cheap enough $16 (or so) a month for 6 months but I don't really want to throw money away or get stuck with a bunch of cheap customers if you know what I mean. I'm not looking for $10k weddings (yet) but not looking to do $500 weddings either.

Thanks.

Doesn't seem worth it at the moment. They have a "guarantee" that if you don't get a wedding in 6 months (if you buy the 6 month option), you get the next 6 months free. But you have to make 10 contacts per month. Well searching in my entire state, there are only 10 weddings currently listed, which span over more than one month. How are you supposed to make those contacts when they don't even exist?

at that price, it doesn't hurt to try. Every wedding market will be different. So it will vary based on where you live / where you shoot.

I'm inclined to give it a shot (no pun intended) for the cost. I figure, if I don't get anything, I'm only out a hundred bucks. If I get just one booking, I've done well.

I have never done much advertising because I've not had the money to do the, "good," advertising if you know what I mean. I'm not sure this is all that good but who knows?

I haven't checked to see what's out in my area but I do know there are a LOT of weddings around here (10 mins from the beach doesn't hurt). So maybe I'll get lucky, get a booking (or two) and start getting my wedding business going.

I'll keep you posted.

I think they're all just money grabs, but I'm a cynic.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

That's how I feel as well. That's why I posted here to see if anyone else has used them.

I wouldn't call you a cynic. I would say you are being more of a realist. Let's face it, why do people start businesses, to make money. The exception to that rule seems to be some people in photography that say they do it simply for the love of it and hence their lower pricing but generally it is to put food on the table. I have no experience with them but I would think that their kind of service would work better in an area with a high population density as you stand a greater chance of some weddings in that area being on here.

No matter what you do in business, there are no guarantees and you are going to have to pay for the service here and you might end up with a longer period because of inactivity. Advertising is always a risk to some degree given the unknown results in it at the time of purchase. I would read whatever you could find on the proposed site and try and make an informed decision. This is why many businesses use agencies to book advertising, they can do all this leg work for you and in the grander scheme of things it is not all that expensive.

I am not sure how this site is supposed to work. I am not registered and thought that I would search for a photographer near New York City. I thought of anywhere there would have to be plenty of photographers from their on this site. The first result on the first page was from someone in Sommerville, MA and then followed by some from as far away as California. It wasn't until the last one on the first page that was showing a location of the Bronx New York. I don't know if being registered will make their search any smarter but there seems to be something amiss here. This is the sort of thing I would be looking for if I am about to drop some cash with them.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I've had many friends advertise on websites like Weddings and The Knot. None of them have ever booked even a single wedding. Unless you fork over the money to be the one "featured" photographer in your area, it's not worth it. And then it's only worth it if you want to throw $$$ into being featured on those sites.

At $119.94 for 6 months if you get one wedding out of it then it pays for itself. And 10 contacts per month. That's roughly 3 per week. Doesn't seem all that difficult...

I just signed up last night and I sent 12 contacts and saved about 30. I figure since I have the extra $$$ I'll see if this thing will work. Hopefully it will pay for itself real quick.
