Hi there,

Any recommendation on portable printer that will fit the needs for photobooth/photo station in events? Fast 4x6 printing is a requirement. Ink efficency is another. I guess.

Thanks for your help.

We use a Hiti 510s Dye-Sub for events and a photobooth.

nonick, for luggable non-ink printers, I've found:

  • Polaroid "Zero Ink" 3x4 and 2x3 printers. GL10 is 3x4. The GL10 is relatively cheap, light, and very compact -- about the size of an e-reader. Sadly, its prints are low quality.
  • Canon Selphy CP-800 (external link). The Selphy is a brick and over two pounds, before the optional battery. The paper passes through four times -- once per dye. Its print resolution is 300 dpi.
  • Epson PictureMate Charm (external link) The Charm is a bigger brick and weighs over 6 pounds. It comes with a battery and a huge number of dye nozzles for very high dpi. The paper passes through once.

These all take about 1 ppm, give or a take some seconds. I'd love to find battery a powered, PictBridge compatible, dye-sublimation, single-pass, compact printer closer to 450 dpi, faster than 2 ppm, closer to an e-reader in size, and under 3 pounds. It'd be really nice if its total start-up price was at most the same as the CP-800 and Charm.

I'm curious to learn what you decide upon.

I have Canon gear. SX1 IS, two 7D bodies and mostly f/2.8 lenses 10mm-200mm, doubler, and 17/4 TSE, some 580EX IIs. Additional portable lighting gear, and tripod with 360 pano mount. Want two 7D II bodies.

Hows the ink/ribbon cost? Seems like a sweet setup!! No 8 x 10..?
is that ever an issue? Interested!
cheers
