Hey PoTN! Big fan of the forum, learned alot from browsing and searching.
Was looking to buy my first flash as I feel it is a better investment than a lens at this point. After looking at my gear would you agree? I take mostly portraits and pictures of objects and I think my 50mm 1.4 could use some help indoors: its hard to nail the focus wide open and its also characteristically soft wide open. I'm not looking for a fancy flash with tons of settings, just the essentials.
I originally was going to get a 430EX II and call it a day, but my ailing college checking account made me reconsider. Then I realized how much there was to flash photography- I'll be looking for a digital E-TTL flash because I want to use it on the camera most of the time and automatic control is nice.
My strongest impression was the Yongnuo YN-468 II- it should be compatible with the 600D (no word on the compatibility page
), has E-TTL, other minor improvements (AF assist + battery door), and best of all, cheap [$95]. Some of my concerns are that the guide number is overrated (20.4 actual) and if I'll be missing out because I was swayed by cheap and end up getting something else down the road.
The other one I'm looking at is the Yongnuo YN-465- its more powerful than the YN-468 II (GN: 27) AND cheaper [$70]! I'm not sure if the E-TTL is compatible with the 600D (compatibility page
says no), and I wonder about the other things like AF Assist and battery compartment.
As for other ones, I looked at the 320EX, the Nissen Di622 II, and the Yongnuo YN-565 EX, but those are all different products at different price points.
Thanks in advance!
