To all the people that are saying that more MP is better, it surely can be at capturing more crap from the mediocre lens they are using.

I've had this guy try to convince me that I NEED more megapixels, that it'll magically (yes he used that word) make my pictures better even though I don't print that big nor crop much.

A professional wedding photographer refused to use her Canon 70-200 lens because off white doesn't look good with her dress :/ my response? I just told her she's on the wrong end of the camera.

I was shooting in Acadia National Park a few years ago, and was using a tripod to take some landscape shots...

I dunno...this is pretty silly.
Either that or you have a damn good tripod...hahahaha

It's OK...we get what you meant.
Just couldn't resist that little faux pas.

My gf's little sister shoots with a Nikon D90 and told me that my 5D classic sucked compared to her camera.

Must be something with the 5D :D
I was shooting an event a while back with my 5D and some random guy started talking to me telling how bad the 5D is and asking me why I was using such a crappy camera

Paul Simon has a Nikon camera. That makes it better than Canon.

From time to time I hear silly people proclaiming that the Canon EOS-7D produces soft images! :D

Yep. A poor workman always blames his tools.

Yeah, pixels and zoom lenses sell cameras. Beyond a minimum point, pixels really don't matter but that's usually the first question amateurs ask about your camera, then how long the lens is. Geez.

Interesting issue: the public's impression of your professional standing is based upon your camera equipment. Sad, but true. I know professionals that bought specific models of video and still gear just because of the model number, not because it made better images. They wanted to combat the silly, but very real, situation where the amateur doctor Uncle has a better camera than the photographer at a wedding. It's the old "my grandfather has a Hasselblad" problem.

In college a girl came up to me holding this camera, asking me 'where do you put the memory card?'

I put a majority of my disposable income into my gear as I want to become a full-time professional, but I seriously can't keep up with the occasional photography hobbyist that happens to be a dentist as a dayjob... Also I'm a student currently. All of my purchases are planned out months in advance and are made only when absolutely necessary and justifiable. I've found that a good deal of the professionals I've run into have a more conservative gear list than well-off hobbyists.

In the mid-1980's, I was convinced to shoot professionally with the new Minolta Maxxum 9000, and was promptly laughed at by a number of pro shooters for even taking a chance with a fad like "auto-focus"........
But then again, I had shot some magazine work for Vintage Motorsports using a Mamiya C330 with a wlf & a handful of lenses, so I guess I had to keep 'em guessing!
