To all the people that are saying that more MP is better, it surely can be at capturing more crap from the mediocre lens they are using.

Beyond a minimum point, pixels really don't matter but that's usually the first question amateurs ask about your camera, then how long the lens is. Geez. Beyond a minimum point, pixels really don't matter but that's usually the first question amateurs ask about your camera, then how long the lens is. Geez. Interesting issue: the public's impression of your professional standing is based upon your camera equipment. Sad, but true. I know professionals that bought specific models of video and still gear just because of the model number, not because it made better images. They wanted to combat the silly, but very real, situation where the amateur doctor Uncle has a better camera than the photographer at a wedding. It's the old "my grandfather has a Hasselblad" problem. I put a majority of my disposable income into my gear as I want to become a full-time professional, but I seriously can't keep up with the occasional photography hobbyist that happens to be a dentist as a dayjob... Also I'm a student currently. All of my purchases are planned out months in advance and are made only when absolutely necessary and justifiable. I've found that a good deal of the professionals I've run into have a more conservative gear list than well-off hobbyists.
