I guy came up to my wife, which was shooting my kids with a 70-200f/4 Lens in a amusement park and said " Have you seen any birds around here? I havent! He walked off laughing with his wife. My wife looked puzzeled.

Had a girl ask me when i was shooting with my 70-200f/2.8IS lens " Is that an old lens?"
Me: thinking, it's a mark I answer: Yes, it's the first one. Girl: Thought so, they make them much smaller now, pointing at her 18-55 kit lens. She walked of giggeling with her friends.

not really a silly gear question but a legitimate question non-the less.

i was shooting the sunset at the beach, some girls walked by and one asked , " why aren't you using a tripod like those folks over there ? " ...well i thought about it for one quick second but then i just had to say it......because i am one , LOLOLOL....

Cute story! :)

I was approached by a photographer at a beach when I was in my teens. He asked to photograph me and offered a model release. My parents were so freaked out that they wouldn't even let me go back to him to tell him no. I felt a little bad about it then - feel even more bad about it now that I understand freelance photography, model releases, etc. better... :(

I like to push buttons on thingies that take pictures. Sometimes I like to push other buttons, too.
I only bite on the second Tuesday of every week, usually only mean people - they kinda taste like chicken...

Come on dude...the guy admits that he's a newbie and he's looking for answers...no need to make fun of him.

I don't mean to make make fun of him. I respect him because he actually had the good sense to come on this forum and ask because it sounded odd to him.

It is the other people who told him that UV filters protect the lens from UV light that I find silly.

Looked at your site, some very nice photos.

You take amazing photos you must have a very nice memory card ;):p

Thanks dude :)

SpeedyGoo wrote in post #13906970 (external link)
on the note of spilling tea on memory cards i am forever putting them through the washing machine, they still work if they dry out properly and theyre fresh and clean...

i once travelled with a friend for a couple of hours to take some landscapes and before leaving he checked if we both had remembered lenses, bodys, lens cleaning acc, tripods and q/r's... safe to say when we got there idiot here forgot to bring a battery!!

My brother has managed to wash the same SD card twice now, it's still going strong and smells like outdoors in the summertime lol

Ah gotcha...well, I guess TECHNICALLY they are correct...though UV hitting your lens is not really a concern haha ;) Cheers!

The silliest thing I heard about gear was in a Craigslist transaction for an EOS 650, big-ass Canon bag, 300ez, 70-210 f4 and 35-70 f3.5-4.5. After the purchase of a whopping 50 dollars, the seller explained how the lenses didn't work on newer digital Canons, or else he would have sold them for more.

That was about the time I pulled out my 5d and took his picture with them.

The other one I get with my Nikkormat constantly is people asking how many megapixels it is, and wanting to see the photo after I've taken it. I had one I did of a friend and went to show her the photo, all she saw was the back of the camera. Took her about a good 2 or 3 minutes to figure out it's a film camera. The cool thing is the few people who DO know what it is. I used it at a recent photo walk and the instructor walked over to me and said "Well I see someone brought a real camera!"

This is not something I heard, but something I saw this past weekend.

I was talking to a guy who happened to have the exact setup I was rocking (5Dc + 16-35L II) when I saw his wife, armed with a 1D3 + 24-?? (either the 70 or the 105, was too far to tell which) taking pictures...in portrait orientation, her hand all contorted, using the landscape orientation controls...so much gorgeous gear wasted on someone who would likely be better off using a G12.
