Folks - I have a chance to reshoot this shoot with the missus. Took this last year as one of the first photo's out of my 24-105. Need some C&C!

I'm thinking we need some more separation between my model's arms and body (maybe one hand on hip), need to get the feets in the image, need a bit more grass on the bottom of the frame. And maybe I can find a better background in the park.

What else? Thanks,

1) f4.0 for 1/1000 using ISO 200 and 105 mm

Missing feet on her and the pooch. That's what sticks out for me.

I think you really need to see their feet it looks odd to almost have them then they are not there. I would also do something to try and save the whites they are a little blown and see if you can do anything to avoid the harsh shadows going across your wife. It might be more dynamic to shoot with the sun directly behind them during the golden hour with a little fill flash.

Not sure what you mean by "chance to reshoot this shoot". You have a beautiful model and if she is willing to do a shoot with her and the pooch, then yes....by all means take that opportunity. I would personally change angles or locations in general for a better background. Find all trees, open field, something that she doesnt get lost in or overpowers her. Sometimes it is easy as just shooting at a different time or changing the angle. I know Houston is all homes or buildings but find a different park if no better backgrounds are possible in the park where you shot before....which would give you the chance to isolate her from the background. Even the brick wall with the vines growing on it would be a good BD.

Have fun with it.

Shoot the golden hour and if it is cloudy, add some fill.

It's well lit and both subjects are looking at the same spot, that's not always easy to do with babies or canine companions! :) But some suggestions:

1. It's odd to cut off their feet, I think the rule of thumb is to cut it off above the knee or above the waist or show all.
2. Try to get the clutter out of the background unless it helps add to the story. That house sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Since they are on a slope, you could try to put them at the bottom and have you stand at the top and shoot down at them, thereby "hiding" more of the background. An alternative is for you to be really low and shoot up and get mostly sky but this one is tougher unless you're farther back because it could make people look "wider" than normal.

One immediate point of improvement would be to clone out that powerline if you have photoshop or similar tool.

Goodness... That's one of the things I liked! But I was looking at some catalog shots this morning and see that you're correct, so we'll work on it.

Good idea, esp since I don't have anyone to hold a reflector for me.

Didn't even think of it. Thanks, we'll do that.

Really like the ideas, and there might be just enough of the slopes in the park for this to work. I'll make a storyboard and that'll make it happen.

Thanks, all!
