Just a few of shots of the backyard regulars while testing out a 500mm f/4L I'm thinking of keeping. I think I may like it, but I can tell you the birds were extra skittish today for some reason :D

Great shots. Look on your left shoulder Steve, see that little Devil sitting there, he's whispering, ' Keep the lens, keep the lens'. :)
He's right, listen to him!!!

Big investment, but if you can afford it: go for it!! I'm sure it would be in very good hands. Already liking what I see here. The first is so cool, sticking it's little head in that cone of light. Great stuff, Steve.

I'm not sure my "little Devil" isn't yelling Mark :) And I'm pretty serious about it. Thx.

Appreciate the feedback Craig....even if there is a slight hint of "self-serving" in there - ;)

Very nice of you to say Don. I have a lot of fun when "Big Mama" is around.

It is a tough decision for just the reason you mention Levina, but it is where I wanted to go so I'm thinking about it real hard. Those nuthatches are hard to beat for "cool"....thanks for the compliment as always.

Great variety Steve. We don't have the brown-headed nuthatches here. And just buy that lens, you'll never regret it and you'll have it forever. :)

Maybe it is my iMac monitor, but the sharpness especially around the eyes and head of the images look over sharpened... especially on the Pileated and Chipping Sparrow. However, the sharpness and detail on the wings and body look very natural... Especially the Chipping Sparrow... of course I don't know the light circumstance... at any rate, I am positive that lens would make you a happy camper... :) Good luck on your decision Steve.

Dave

Thank you Dave as always. Not sure why they look oversharpened as I underprocessed these if anything, but I'll check with you about it via PM.

Much appreciated Dean. I do love the lens; the question becomes do I love the soup and crackers I have to eat for months to be able to pay for it - :)

These look fantastic, and I would keep that 500 if it is affordable to do so. Also on my monitors none of them look over sharpened at all they look great.
