So I'm kicking around the idea of a second body for Lanscape and Portrait and a 5D seems to be the body of choice. Seeing how I have absolutely zero interest in video would a 5D Classic serve my needs or do I "need" a 5DmkII ?

Is IQ, high ISO performance the same between the two ?

To start with the lens of choice will be my 24-70 f/2.8L

Thanks !

The 5Dii has better high ISO performance than the 5D, but the 5D is capable of producing truly lovely images. If you don't need to print really big and therefore need the 21MP from the 5Dii, the 5D will be a great landscape body.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

I have 500D which is the same IQ in terms of landscape and portraits as 50D.
My 5Dc works better for both. IMO, landscapes and portraits photography doesn't need high ISO at all, but needs 100-200ISO to be clean on long exposure or under flash(studio)lights. 5Dc has it. Both of your Ls will do landscape on 5Dc. Grab one ultra wide MF lens to be able to get all advantages of FF and one portrait lens like 85 or 100 USM to get the best of the best portraits from 5Dc. Drop fast 50mm prime in the middle of your zooms and all of the sadden you'll have ultimate one camera one lens kit which is light and compact yet capable of almost everything - low light photography, portraits and unique looking landscapes, which pops out from F16 crowd.
You could have all three primes I mentioned and 5Dc under same price as MKII.
Knowing how capable my 500D at 6400 and even 12800ISO, I'm surprised how well 5Dc handles dark with fast prime on it and ISO1600.

go for 5DII for landscapes

Not sure why the 24-70 for landscapes. You wont need the 2.8 speed for landscapes. Consider 24-105 instead. It does have IS making it also a great walkaround lens.

I have a 50D and a 5DmkII. great combination. And with the 24-70 you will have a great combination.

If the price of the mkII is a problem the 5Dc is also a great camera. A friend has one and it is also very good. You do loose the higher ISO performance but for landscapes and portraits you don't really need it.
