Have the t3i with the 2 kit lens- 18/55 and 55/250.. and am learning as much as i can-

Defiantly like Macro, Landscape, beach Pics, sunrise, sunsets, and inside Pics of the cats.

so i was all set to Purchase the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM but now Im not so sure-
I can spent 1,000 or so but not for just Macro shooting-

my question-

should i look maybe Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM (for macro)

Then another lens for landscape beach sunrise and sun sets. whats the quick low light indoor lens for general cat Pics- or can the canon EF 100mm handle most of what i want.

thanks-

before spending your money
your lens 18-55 is very good for close up photos
you want more of close up from it ?
attach the extention tube 25mm and then your lens will act like a macro lens

if you want a good macro lens for your camera
the 60mm macro is the best for your camera
the 100L is not short and your pop up flash not strong enough
and the 60mm macro will gives you a macro photo better than the 100L on your camera
the 100L is great on the 60D ,7D and the FF 5D2

for general and low light the best lens for your camera is the 50mm 1.8
for a good reach you had the 55-250mm
good luck

EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
http://www.usa.canon.com …f_s_10_22mm_f_3_5_4_5_usm (external link)

canon extention tube 25mm not cheap
but you can use AF when you focus
the kenko cheap but you had to use the manual focus

and you are welcome

I've had the 60mm, 100mm and 100mmL. I can't tell the difference in IQ between them, the 100's gave me more working distance, and the L has IS which I suppose is useful sometimes. The 60 is a very nice lens.

Am I missing something? What is your reasoning for a 100L not working well on a T3i yet it works great on 60D, 7D and 5D2?

freddyttt,
I would suggest the Canon 10-22mm/Sigma 10-20mm as your next lens. It will cover everything you want to do except macro. Check out the lens archives to see some awesome photos of a cat jumping through the air using an UWA lens like above.

:D
the EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM
will work fine on all the bodies even the T1i
but its better on the 7D and up

Attempted to look up what you refrenced: http://www.usa.canon.com …y/Lens_Advantage_Select#a (external link)

Are you implying that the EF-100mm isn't a good match for the T3i because it is an EF lens and the T3i is a 1.6x crop? While the EF-S 60mm is designed specifically for 1.6x?

I still don't grasp why the 100mm would work well on a 60d/7D and not on T3i. From my understanding they are practically identically when it comes to IQ/Sensor. Benefit of 7D would be AFMA which the T3i/60D don't have.

I have the 100mm Macro on my 60D and it works great! The only caveats I have about the 100 Macro is that the focus is slow and the focus ring is sloppy, but besides that the lens works as it should.

I think that 60mm is too far zoomed out for macro, at least in my using of it. Plus the 100 non L goes for a good price used.

Plus if you dump the 1K into the lens you really only get IS and better construction...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njqTFlMiGLQ (external link)

no
im not saying the 100L will not work fine on the crop
it will work fine
but its better on the 60D ,7D AND 5D
for the image quality and for the AF
shoot and see
and you will know what i mean
