I need to reach +20 MA to reach a sharp image on the Sigma 50. It seems sharp but I can’t go over +20 as the 5D2 is limited at this point. Should I send it back to Sigma for any adustment. The original owner had +3/+4 MA on his body(5D2 as well)...

Is it under warranty? Do you have a warranty card? If yes, yeah, send it to Sigma. It should take 2 weeks + to get it back.

If it seems sharp enough at 20 then why send it in? A lot of guys will tell you if its over 10 or 15, or whatever, to send it back. But you have +/- 20... so long as its sharp, why mess with it.

on that note, I sent my 50mm to Sigma a week ago. Put it in the mail on Wed, they received it Friday, I had it back in my hands the following Friday. My advice would be to be specific on what the issue is. I noted mine was soft wide open but just mentioned inconsistent focus. It is very noticeably sharper now, but still focuses inconsistently, so I sent it back again with a detailed description of what I think its doing, or what I have noticed. I still have faith. I expect it back early to mid next week.... fingers crossed! It was sharp though!

The problem is that at +20, you have no idea if +21 or +22 would get you an even sharper picture. I went through 3 copies of the Sigma 50 all of which were +20. On my 4th copy I finally won the Sigma lottery. +3 and I couldn't be happier. At least Sigma is consistent with their +20s :)

Mine seems plenty sharp right out of the box. I wonder if I should mess with mine a little to see if it improves?

I used mine on 5D and was in love with it. No MA needed, well could do any:) but pictures were tack sharp. Then i got 5D2 and needed +20 MA. Didnt want send it for calibration, the lens wasnt under warranty anymore and I felt in love with 35L anyway. Sigmalux changed home and cant wait to receive the 35L. If i ever go for 50, it will be Sigma again!

Mine is +20 on my 5D2, but I've been too lazy to send it back. I'll do it one of these days. Haven't had any problems with misfocused shots, so I've been putting it off.

So, if you want it to be better, send it in. I'd do it, if I weren't lazy.

At least you were able to find the correct focus adjustment on your copy. I bought a Sigmalux before and I tried every trick in the book -/+ 1-20 and that copy was still soft
