Yes,. but I allways have my left hand on the lens anyways,. so it doesn't matter. As I am holding the lens anyway,. it is certainly no effort to hold it without allowing my hand to slide towards or away from the other one.. pointing the lens upward would not cause the lens to zoom becuase I would be holding it.
