Okay guys, first attempt at using a 7D for video. A friend of mine called and asked if I could try and do a promotional video for his barbershop. I agreed and this was the final output.

Let me know what you think. Also, after doing a bit more research, I downloaded technicolor cinestyle which I will be using the next time I get a chance. For this interview i just set it to neutral and dumb down a bunch of settings. Edited in FCP X, shot all with a 7D, Rode Mic, and Sigma 30mm.

Consider a lapel mic sennheiser makes a good product on interviews at time 1:40 a little too much background noise a little distracting. Overall good job for your first we look forward to seeing more of your projects.

I was going to suggest the same... Or along those lines. I really think you did a great job with the capturing and editing especially since its your first video, but you have got to spend some money on better audio capture if youre going to start doing more. Audio is actually MORE important then visual in dialog driven video.

Thanks for the advice guys. After this shoot I went to amazon and invested in a H4n and a lavalier. I wanted to do the actual shoot somewhere less noisy, but he insisted on being around the other barbers during the interview. Lesson learned. thanks for the input!

Don't use music with vocals for an interview. It's distracting.
Audio shouldn't fade up and down over seconds getting into and out of interview shots. When music bumps to VO it can be done in a matter of 6 or so frames. And that level drop of the music should be between 7 and 15 DB depending on what type of music you are using. The entire soundtrack of the video should be hovering at -12db and peaking at -6. You shouldn't be able to hear any noticeable audio shifts in volume.

Thanks for the advice! I will definately do that for my next project.

if this really was your first attempt... bravo.
i agree with the others about audio quality, and volume.

i think the sigma 30mm did a great job...

the only other CC id add is that the colors were a little to warm for me... maybe have been able to use another WB setting.?

it was also a little slow and drawn out... kind of got boreing.
id give it a B-

looking forward to seeing the next one.

I sat and watched the video and I personally , if I was the owner of the barbers would be very happy with it , maybe you did some things wrong but I never noticed until they were pointed out .

Good job and in my opinion it looked professional

Your right and i agree the colors were not to my liking. I actually ended up loading cinestyle on my 7d so I have a little more control with colors and stuff. I appreciate the feedback!
