I've been keeping an eye on a couple lenses with the current rebate cycle ending today (Feb 4th) but I just saw this Canon flyer in my local paper. Here is a picture with the various discounts, valid Feb5-Mar3. It's not listed on the sites yet, and it doesn't appear all of the currently discounted lenses are listed (mostly just the L-series lenses). I can't confirm but if it's true, all of these lenses have a 'double-rebate' discount which is valid when purchased with an eligible EOS camera (they show the 5DII, 7D and 60D at the bottom) So if you were thinking about picking up a body anyway, maybe check it out tomorrow.

I guess that really means we won't get any new announcements until the end of February

Wow. At some point Canon should just lower the prices of these lenses, as they have been on rebate since early November.

Not that I'm complaining. :)

I guess it shows how much they're marked up to begin with. From what I understand their recent sales numbers have been disappointing, so maybe they're just trying to clear stale inventory and sell as much as possible before the new upcoming releases. (According to CR a new body and 3 lenses)

It makes sense for certain lenses (35L, 50L, 24-70L) as these are all version 1s and have been out there for a while. But the 85LII, 24LII, 70-200L ISII are all 2nd gen models that probably haven't been selling because they're so expensive to begin with. The price point is set so high that if its not an everyday lens for you, one may opt to rent a 70-200L ISII for $50 a weekend instead of buying at a list price of $2374. $400 off will help but its still two-grand.

Totally agree with the above statement. These camera companies will charge premium prices knowing that photographers will spend money when it comes to gear purchases. Another example is the 5D Mark II. In Canada they sold the 5D 2 for CAD 2000 for almost 4 months. Canon would never had sold at that price by making loses on it. Imagine how much profit they have made when 5D 2 was selling at $2500.

I think that's what they're doing, no? :)

All the people hanging onto the 70-200 lenses and others waiting till tomorrow to list them (used) aren't going to be very happy with all this. :(

WIth the rumors of new lenses and bodies on the horizon, I'd expect this to be an effort to clean out old inventory. Maybe not...

Don't forget that technology gets cheaper as time goes on..... making that body today probably costs quite a bit less than it did a year or even 6 months ago.

I was hoping for an extension..... it'll give me a bit more time to get what I want

T3i, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 30 1.4, 18-55 kit, 55-250, YN-565, a few books, some software, and a desire to get good.....

Was hoping the 5DII and 7D bodies would come down a little more when combined with the lens discount. The bodies are still advanced prosumer cams and have good value, but at this point are already 2.25-3 years old. Hesitant to drop $2150+ if I can get the next gen model for only 20% more in April... It is kinda funny that Canon sells refurb 7Ds for more than a brand new one

Well it looks like if you jumped on the new deals late last night, you got in at a good time (at B&H at least) when configured a 7D/5DII with an 85LII, last nights price for the lens was $1709 and is now listed $80 higher. it appears they've gone through and raised many of the items' base price from which to discount from, effectively reducing much of the extra savings.
