Hello, ive got my setting in the flash control setup i think correct.I only have the wireless icon enable under the icons an not the popup icon with wireless icon.I understand that the popup has to be up so it can meter the scene, then the flashgun fires. It does just that but the popup still fires along with the flash gun. Both were on tripods so i could watch them.I can see the popups light in some pics.

Hopefully im missing something because thats really dissapointing.Ive got some triggers, but i love the ettl it transmits.

Anyone with any thoughts.Ive seen some yube vids, and the manual but they both appear to say the same thing.Maybe its me.

Bottom line is there a way to not have the popup fire when taking the final shot??preflash yes but not the final shot.

Thanks

The popup will show very dimly in the exposure even when deselected in the camera's wireless menu. You can't turn it off completely. I'll have a couple of pictures up in a few minutes.

You've got the right idea here but the wrong test. With the built in flash disabled, it should fire before the shutter opens and should not be affecting your exposure. Set up a slave unit with your built in as the master (disabled). Take a photo of the remote flash with it turned on and again with it turned off. The first photo should be all light (from the remote firing) and the second should be black (or just ambient illuminated).

The popup does have to issue the command for the slaves to fire in addition to the commands for pre-flash metering. When do the flashes fire? When the shutter is completely open! There is the possibility to capture some of that fire command light if the camera is close to the subject. The two test pictures above illustrate that.

You can get a master-flash (580 at least) to not contribute at all if you enable HSS and use a shutterspeed above sync speed..

I guess you have never tried it in front of a mirror. When using wireless, you will see the pop-up flash in a photo, even with it disabled (set to off). It will also be visible as a reflection off shiny objects at close range. When I notice it, I will use a my hand to block to pop-up flash and deflect the light towards the slave.

Thanks everyone for your replys. It makes since now.I think my problem was i was too close to my subject an it appeared to have the popup in the picture. It didnt ruin the picture, but seemed to add some flash that i didnt need.Well atleast i know what to do now without using my other triggers(cactus no ettl).

Ill just use the 7d with 580 on a stand and set the distance accordingly.I just dream of the day when i nail some more of these basic setups that work accordingly.Still getting desired results.7D is a handfull right now.Still trying to get the tac sharp pics.ISO seems to be my culprit. But im in my baby shoes right now.Peace
