I like those. I like the second one better.

My Dad was stationed at McChord AFB when that mountain went crazy. That is a day I will never forget. It was incredible and scary at the same time.

Good shots, Tom. I've been there several times over the years and it's always a marvel to see. Hard to imagine the fury unleashed when it erupted.

My folks heard the eruption from Pender Island actually. Were out in the garden with my Grandparents and said it sounded like a truck hit a house.

Great shots. I also like the second image, it tells a more thorough story. Great style with both images.

just a few of my thoughts...

These have an ethereal quality to them. Very nice. A place I hope to visit someday! I, too, enjoy the second a little more, but both are great.

Edit: I think #1 is great, and could be even better with just a hint of contrast and some selective dodging and burning to bring out some shadows and highlights.

It's not nearly as hard as it seems. There are lots of ways to do it, the easiest being using the dodge and burn tools right in PS. Google it, or even check YouTube and I'm sure you'll find lots of step by step tutorials on it. But, definitely don't be nervous about giving it a shot! You'll find it's a great tool to use on your photos!

Here is a super quick edit. Just added a little contrast, then did a little dodging and burning on the shadows and highlights. Nothing crazy, but it does give it a little more pop. Who knows - you may not like it, but it's always good to experiment with the tools you have available!
