Hello members!

Apparently my friend's apartment was burglarized today and his camera gear stolen. This was in the east bay area. Some of the items include a Canon 7D and 17-55 IS. I'm still in the process of getting details (e.g. serial numbers, date codes, full list of inventory, etc.), but if you happen to see any ads here or craiglist for these items priced low to move quickly, send me a PM.

Thanks!

You should have your friend check this link out. Not many details, and I don't usually see a 7d sell WITH a 17-55IS, and the posting was made this morning.

not much info though.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the watchout, guys! My friend didn't record the serial numbers or date codes so I think it's very unlikely he'll be able to find his items again.

I'm asking if he had a rodenstock UV filter an 8 GB card with it. Kinda weird for a CL ad to be saying the camera has 10,000+ shots on it yet still one year warranty on it. Not many folks get 10,000 shots in less than a month's time.

As much as this gear costs I can't imagine not recording serial numbers. I don't know if your friend has insurance or not but my policy will not cover me for photo gear unless I furnish the serial numbers to the police and they are noted on the police report.

Camera serial number should be in EXIF, he can just check his pictures taken with it.
Lens serial should be on warranty card and receipt if purchased from Canon dealer.

Depends on the user. Some of my assignments put out a ton of files. Over the summer I did an international assignment for 3 weeks and came back with 12,000 images. A full day of wedding coverage will net about 1,000 files and that's not even shooting in burst mode.

What insurance is available for camera gear? or is there a thread on this, just did a quick search and didnt really find any companies for it. I'm located in norcal as well and I randomly carry my equiptment around and from time to time i leave it at my GF's or in my car while grabbing dinner etc... I dont have much stuff... but more than enough to make me worry about theft...

To insure most expensive items for near what they're really worth you need to ask your Insurance agent to add a "rider or floater" to your insurance. You basically declare what you have specifically s/n, make/model, take pictures or videos of the stuff, keep receipts, etc. and they can get a quote for a full replacement cost rider for those items. Usually about $1.50/$1000 is the rate, or at least that's what I was getting quoted. I had to do this on some expensive guitars I have. Most standard homeowners/renters policy severely restrict what you can claim for jewelry, camera gear, musical instruments, electronics like computers, etc. You may think you're fully covered but you probably aren't covered for anywhere near what it'll take to replace it. On my guitars they covered < %25 of what it would cost to replace them. If you haven't done so already perhaps this unfortunate incident may do others some good by prompting them to call their agents to see where they stand. Give him or her a call and say "if someone broke into my house and stole $12k of my camera gear how much would my current policy cover?" Make sure you're sitting down when you do this... :)
.

Disclaimer: I'm not a licensed insurance agent. I'm just a guy on the 'net recommending that you check with a real Licensed Insurance Agent before you do anything based on what I wrote.

Here is CA, talk to State Farm Agent for Personal Article Policy. Roughly $100 per yr for $10k stuff. Covers everything even if you drop the things and break them. This is for non pro use.

In some states these policies are becoming scarce as stand-alone products so be sure to also check with whomever writes you homeowners or renters policy. If you don't have renters insurance, get a quote NOW.

Fuji convert - Ping me if you have any Fuji gear or legacy glass you're moving.
