So, yeah, I fully expect everyone here to tell me how bad of a copy I received and to send it back immediately. Poor Tamron.

it looks ok. your first shot has a tad amount of motion blur. You should shoot it like how you shoot a regular 24-70mm, with good shutter. If you're shooting anything less than 160, you should double or triple snap, and pick the best. IS/VC can only do so much, 1/40 is really low territory for non static photography. Your ISO is kind of high for these shots.

your autofocus looks good at least. You should test it against another lens if possible. I think your expectation is a little too high for night time photography.

Well I can tell you, YOUR copy I would try to fix with MA :). It looks like it maybe a touch back focusing on some shots, but within "-5" range which I consider acceptable if it's consistent on both ends. (I couldn't get mine balanced no matter what I did, even with 5D3 that allows for different MAs on wide and tele, or maybe that just made it harder, as one affects the other to an extent).

I like the colors too. Are these SOOC?

Yes, 100% SOOC except for re-sized.

All images above are posted in pairs. Photo 1: SOOC, re-sized with camera data text added. Photo 2: 100% crop. Nothing else was done. In-camera sharpening: 0, no USM used.

why would you shoot with the in camera sharpening set to 0? You do know you will get similar results with the canon 24-70L with the a same settings (less the shutter speeds of course) with the sharpness turned down to 0. The tamron has been documented to be sharper in the center than the canon so you would most likely be upset should you purchase the 24-70mk1 and hoping for sharper center shots.

I agree that your shots with the vr are pretty impressive.

I took some video to test the lens.

I just ordered a 82mm ND filter, (not used on the video) , Hope to get sharper shots with shallower depth of field next time. Great lens for video.

Hey dude, thanks for sharing that video. I appreciate you taking the time to use the lens in various conditions! :D

a friend of mine got 4 different Tamron within 2 weeks (Amazon), none of them were good, so he returned them and finally got a second hand Canon Mk I

repeat issues on the 4 copies: sharpness & strong onion bokeh :/

Doesn't matter how many copies he goes through as ALL copies will have Onion bokeh in certain lighting conditions. How sharp it is can be another story.

Nah, I'd rather go back to 24-105 than Mk 1. It's a good lens, but it's too big and not that sharp at 2.8. Or I might just get those 1.4-s: 35 and 50 and call it a day :)

Which 82mm ND filter did you buy? Any link available?

Just wonder if anyone has bought a lens from Amazon.com? If I buy Tamron 24-70mm from Amazon.com and get a bad copy, can I just return it with free shipping?

I bought the Tamron 24-70 VC from Adorama and just do not want to deal with hassle at Amazon.
