I'm a 60D shooter and my copy should arrive this Monday! I've been waiting for the longest week of my life for this lens to show up. I'll be giving my two-cents as soon as I have news. I'm so wound up to use it, I can't see straight! :p

I am also wanting to buy this lens and use on 450D. Can you please post pics taken using this lens. And appreciate your opinion on crop body and this lens

Is this lens is weather sealed/resistant?

I think it has some weather resistance but not to a L lens level.

I just finished reading the feature statement on the Tamron site. It says water resistant, no mention of dust resistance. I was curious about this spec, as well, bottomline is it's not sealed on par with an L lens.

I have been following this post for a while now but was a little concerned about the onion ring bokeh, I decided to take the plunge and buy it based on all the other good reports. My lens arrived yesterday and its all good, I can't get it to take onion ringed bokeh for the life of me. Maybe they have corrected this problem on the later batches.

Cheers
Murray

I doubt it, it's a design "flaw" and I can't see them making such a big change.
Mine is a month old and whiel I don't see it day to day I can quite easily make it appear. It doesn't bother me, it's very easy to fix in LR4.

I took this last month. F/2.8, 1/8 hand held. This is why I got it over the Canon. It's not a perfect lens, slower than USM focusing and I find the VC to be a bit erratic but overal I don't think there is anything else that has all these features in one lens. It's very sharp, even wide open on my 5DMKIII, also pretty soft on my 60D. Not a big deal as I don't ted to use it on that camera (or the camera come to think of it)

I don't think there is a best. The canon may have a IQ advantage under certain situations but for still shots having VC could be an advantage ad help keep ISO lower.

My Tamron is going back next week, the VC has cut out a few times recently. I'm thinking I might go for a Canon MKII instead. The reason is I find the AF a bit slow, and also I didn't notice the VC was off a lot of the time, maybe I don't need it.

From what I have gathered from reviews and such, the Canon mk II is better than the Tamron, but the Tamron is ahead of the first Canon 24-70 in most areas if not all, and it has the VC with it. I have used both the Canon lenses, and the mk II is an amazing lens. I haven't tested the Tamron yet.

What do you mean by sharp wide open on 5d3 but soft on a 60d? why would a camera body matter to lens sharpness?

No MA on the 60D perhaps? Usually lenses are sharper if anything on a crop, in the corners.

Some of my lenses needed MFA on my 7D but are spot on with my 6D. Different bodies have different tolerances. I think his lens being "soft" with his 60D is a problem with the 60D, not with the lens.

Sorry to be blunt but I've told you what's happening, I don't have the technical knowlage to explain why it's happening.
No MFA is needed on my 5D and no MFA available on my 60D. My old 17-55 and 15-85 were fine wide open, as is my 100mm and 40mm on the 60D.

Edit: when I say no MFA is needed on my 5D that's because I'm happy with the results. It could well be that using it will make things even better, I've not tired it yet.

Because the pixel densities on the sensor are significantly different between the two.

It might be a MFA issue, of course, and the way to determine that is to put the camera on a tripod, switch into live view, and do the contrast detect autofocus on a still subject with lots of detail. If that results in a soft image, and can't be improved on by manually focusing in live view with the magnification maximized in live view, then the difference is attributable strictly to the pixel densities on the sensor.

Ignore the "two" cameras. This lens is softer than all the other lenses ive had, or have, on my 60D. If i didnt have the 5DMKIII (the reason i got the lens) the Tamron would have gone back within about half hour. If i can use a Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS, a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 wide open on it i would expect to be able to get the same results from the 24-70 f/2.8. Even a second hand 18-55IS ive just brought is sharper wide open.
Im not comparing the lenses as such, just expecting then all to be usable wide open.
