Ugh, that is bad news. For those of you who get your hands on it I'd like to see more examples of f/2.8 @ 70mm.

That will only affect the 15% or so that use a 35mm camera.

The rest of us won't see much of it.

Only shoot wide open.

I'm a little confused by your statement. I don't think 15% are using film now, I think the percentage is much lower. People using FF digital are much higher and I wouldn't consider this on a crop body, the 17-55 IS or the comparable third party lenses make more sense.

This has to be a joke. I mean this much vignetting. WOW

So far, I do not like the lens vignetting "feature". In 70 mm, it goes away @f8.0!

I was thinking the same thing, I've never seen vignetting like that out of any modern lens and it does look a lot like the vignetting feature in LR. That's why I'd like to see some confirmation of this.

On the positive side, I don't see any "onion"-highlights in bokeh here:

Yeah, I wonder whether it was something else. Perhaps Peripheral Illumination Correction was enabled but detecting the wrong lens?

The photo directly above this comment (the "bud" photo) is also a 70mm, f2.8 photo with no vignetting from the same posting. According to the comment section on FredMiranda it is "cropped". The author did not feel that this was worth mentioning at first. :)

Later on in the comments the author states: "I only open the JPG file from the camera with Photoshop elements and did little adjustment (mostly resize)so that you guys can see the truth." Because of course the result of the various JPG preprocessing features of the camera is "the truth". Exact settings for things like Picture Style, PIC, Sharpness, etc. were not stated anywhere. (*ahem*)

I know it is just a quickie review by an enthusiast. Noone expects perfection. It is safe to say that there are some flaws in the methodology.

the vignette issue looks odd, since he has two shots @70mm F2.8, and one has no noticeable vignetting.

Yep, so it certainly has PIC support. Since the Tamron lens is so new (and not a Canon lens...) I assume that there is no accurate profile for it yet.

Only the person who took the photos can tell us whether PIC was enabled. Does anyone happen to know whether PIC on the 5DIII detects this lens as something else?

Then there is the question of why PIC would darken the corners rather than brighten them...

The heat dish shot was at F4 70mm, with no vignetting.... pretty much a white wall as the background as well

The FM thread author later writes that he cropped the plant photo to remove vignetting.

Yeah, more info would be useful. Did they have a lens hood on for that one really bad shot? Did they put it on quickly and not put it on all the way? Perhaps it is rotated 45 degrees?

I think maybe I should wait for the professional reviews. :)

You would think the likes of DPREVIEW or PHOTOZONE.DE would have had a copy by now and would have released initial thoughts!!!
