Here is my setup.
pair of hensel studio strobes I recently purchased from craigslist.
two umbrellas
a mid size softbox
a big octodome softbox
a large roll of grey seamless paper with stands.
a large revearsable reflector (white one side, silver the other) on a stand.
I also have a 580exII and a smaller softbox.
a sekonik light meter

Here is my question. I know this is a LOADED question. Maybe some direction or pointers will help. I am trying ot master one light first which I have a good grasp on. From what I have learned over the year playing around with this is use the octodome if taking a single person picture, with the white reflector on the shadow side of person to bring in some light.

If I am doing a group picture, say a family picture, should I use my umbrellas set higher then Eye level shooting down from both sides of camera to light the family? I tried using just a reflector and I was getting some funky shadows coming from the person's head blocking the flash to person behind.

I have even played around with using my 580ex2 as a hair light on a tall stand.

I guess, when is best time to use small, mid, and octobox softboxes? When is it a good time to use umbrellas. I know more control over softbox, more spill with umbrella. I have even experimented with strobe in octobox with white reflector and having the other main strobe gobo'd by the refelctor to blow out or add color to backround. I know this all comes down to style so to speak.

Thanks!
I have been playing around with the setup and trying to find best combination
