I was talking to a friend that does not frequent this forum and he was telling me that his camera in manual mode, he cannot set the F factor. He can set the shutter speed and the ISO. Is this correct or does he have something wrong with it? Thanks for your help.

He may not have the rear dial set to adjust aperture. Either that, or he isn't turning the power switch to the second detente which will keep the rear dial from functioning.

Sounds like he needs to read the manual. I didn't use the 50d, but it's predecessor had an "auxiliary" position on the power switch that had to be set to unlock the rear dial for that. I'd have him check that.

50D owner here also and I agree as well. He's not turning it to the top 'on' position. The first 'on' position locks out the rear dial, the second one activates it.
