I don't know who said this, but I'm starting to agree. Backstory to picture: I've long wanted to photograph this twisted Juniper and spire since I saw another photo of it some time back. I get the coordinates, hike the hill to the tree and there is an Australian couple sitting in lawn chairs drinking beer right between the tree and spire. I ask them nicely if they could move for a minute while I take a picture. After a long hesitation, the man said "I'll move briefly, if you don't take too long." The woman said, "I'm not moving an inch." I got in a position to block out the woman with the tree (if you look at the first picture closely you can see the corner of her chair I forgot to clone out) and took a shot and left, very pissed. If they had not been there I would have shot the place from every conceivable angle and focal length. I determined to come back at first light the following morning, and much to my chagrin, when I showed up at 6:45 am Sunday moring, I'll be damned if there they were again, this time with their morning coffee! I walked out in the desert to kill some time, and they were gone when I returned, but, alas, the light sucked.

The tree is only about 5 feet tall, the rock spire about 20 feet tall:

Well, you seem to be unwelcome everywhere except Joshua Tree NP.

Don't you wish you could tell folks like that how rude they are?

Bottom line, though, you got some good shots and a story.

Bloody tourists....what kind of A-Holes act like that in real life? Sounds like a TV show. Anyway, nice shots and good patience for not shoving their shrimp up their barbie.....

Good time for one of those steel wool spark photos. They might move for that.

Or just start taking pictures of them from odd angles and make them uncomfortable.

Take an air horn with you.....I dunno.

Put a bunch of filters on your lens and refer to them as your x-ray filters and then start taking photos of them lol...

I am sorry that my some of countrymen are prize @$$ holes. MOST of us would be happy to clear off while you get a few shots. Its only common courtesy. Its a shame you didn't get their names, I'd like to track them down at home and tell them that they have won @hole of the year award.

Cheers, RAW

Yeah, I'll second that...
Are you sure they weren't Kiwis? - hahaha
Some people think we sound alike.

By the way, I'm only kidding about the Kiwis.

Wow, that doesn't sound like Australians. Maybe some other countries, without naming names... ;-)a I guess there are a$$holes from everywhere... ;-)a I'm glad that you managed to get the shot anyway. They look great.

What a crazy thing nature has done with those two (the rock and tree not the couple...) It couldn't be more surreal if you planned it. A shot including the couple on lawn chairs would be a little surreal too.
