Which is more exciting and/or enticing?

The Canon is predicted to be the favorite as it's the OEM brand and MKII version. But will the Tamron be the NY Giants and pull out the (underdog) win?

My vote goes to the Tamron: it's more exciting, more enticing, and it's what the people want to see.

i've already had the 24-70L mk1 ... i simply needed IS. so no matter how many lightyears better the IQ is of the mk2, it still can't help me.

Tamron FTW!

Tamron for me. I loved the IS on the 17-55 when I had it. Ever since I moved to FF, I was hoping for the 24-70 to have IS. Walkaround lens, 2.8+VC=win!!!

how many stops does Tamrom's VC account for? Are we talking like...less than 1? or 2? 4? I looked in specs but didn't see anything and have no experience with Tamron's VC stuff.

All reviews I've seen say Tamron's VC is the most effective of all the stabilisation systems.

All I can say is, 1 is better than nothing! But the new lenses they have been putting out are somewhere around 3-4 stops. So we can safely start expecting there.

There's even an official picture of it here: LINK (external link)

Now... here's my question... why the heck are both of these lenses 82mm dia front elements all of a sudden?

Beats "Which lens should I get?" or "Should I put a UV filter on my lens?" threads, doesn't it? :D

Wait... you meant this isn't a "Which lens should I get?" thread?

How can people be asking that question when one of the lenses is just a rumor and when we know nothing about the iq of the other lens?

If IQ and AF speed/accuracy close then Tamron IS is worth more to me than a better Canon non-IS build (I'm not a professional photographer so I won't push the build limits of even the cheaper consumer zooms).
