Wow, this makes my decision making on the second mid range lense much easier :)

what if it's like another tamron 17-50 vc? then i'd keep my "non-vc" version aka canon 24-70 mk1.

I'd say $800 would be a good price point to start at.

Sp1207 wrote in post #13838290 (external link)
800$ tops.

I would think it will be higher than $800. Sigma's non-OS 24-70 EX HSM is $900 at B&H. If they can ensure high IQ output (and I think they will), this lens could be priced around the current 24-70 L. It would be a steal at $800.

Tamron feel like junk.

Will add that as a poll option next time.

Tamron need to give us another kick, 50mm 1.4 with higher AF consistency and better IQ than both Sigma and Canon. :)

I'd love to see Tamron get into the VC+USD lens game big time. Maybe a 85 f1.4 VC USD, 135 f2 VC USD, or something like a 200-400 f4 VC USD.

Probably going to come down to whether you want the IQ of the Canon mkII or the VC and price of the Tamron. If the Tamron IQ is competitive with the Canon mkI it's going to be in a good spot...

My 3 copies of the 17-50 VC were pretty darn good (one was decentered). And I've used plenty non-VC units too.

All things equal, I would be more interested in the Tammy if it's zoom and focus rings turned the same direction as Canon lenses.

Is it confirmed that the 24-70/2.8 L mk II will be a non IS? What's that extra bump on the image at the top? Could that be the switch for IS?

Zoom lock maybe? All indications are the Canon will not have IS. Their new 24mm and 28mm primes will though and that doesn't make a lot of sense.

It is possible a zoom lock... to prevent lens creep.

Beats "Which lens should I get?" or "Should I put a UV filter on my lens?" threads, doesn't it? :D

LOL! Gotta agree with you on that...

I say tamron.... I too missed the IS on the 17-55 when I switched to FF. Heck I almost went back to crop just for the 17-55 IS but now I can keep my 5d and get a 24-70 VC and be happy!!

I've had great luck with Tamron. They have a hit if they make sure its sharp from the start! Bad rep for being soft right out of the gate may never get overcome. (see 17-50VC) :(

If you really need the IS do what I've done, crank the ISO up to 3200 and use the 24-105. ;)

Canon 24-70 II isn't a rumor. Look for it, the 5D3, and a new speedlite to be announced before the end of the month.
