Wow, what a day, 24-70L II, 28 and 24mm 2.8 IS primes and the Nikon D800 36mp 51 AF...

Does this mean Canon's going to announce 5D MARK III finally?

I can see people already thinking of jumping ship for the D800...Thank goodness I have spent way too much on my Canon Glass.

Let's hope the 5D Mark III competes, Canon never fails though!

That being said, a brand new 5D Mark II is only 2000 where the D800 is 3000.

Here's to hoping for a 2800 price range!

Canon will do what Canon will do...

They've never really jumped because the competition does something.

you should buy the 5d2... :)
The reasoning is because as soon as you buy a 5d2, the 5d3 will be announced... :)
Just how the rules work... :)

The D800 looks pretty badass!!

Hopefully Canon doesn't announce anything, large numbers switch to Nikon and flood the market with used L glass, causing prices to plummet. That's when I swoop in and buy up some lenses. Quickly followed by Canon announcing replacements for the 5D MkII and 7D.

I feel like I'm the only one that's more excited about the Tamron 24-70 VC announcement than the Canon ones.

Let's hope the 5D Mark III competes, Canon never fails though!

From the rumored specs it looks like it won't be able to compete with the D800, a majority of the time Canon has always been bettered by the Nikon offerings. I think only the 5dm2 and the 7d were slightly better than their Nikon counterparts (D700 and D300s)

Canon doesn't do that well in the following comparisons

50d vs D300
1ds3 vs D3fx
1dm4 vs D3s
1dx vs D4
5dm3 vs D800

1Dx, 1DM4, 5DM2, 7D, EOS-M, 8-15L, 17-40L, 24 TSE II, 24-105L, 50L, 85L II, 100L, 135L, 200L f/2.8, 300L f/4, 70-200L II, 70-300L, 400Lf/5.6

Actually it was
40D vs D300 - Announced weeks apart. and price difference was $600+. Until 7D canon really did not have a camera in the class of D300 (and Nikon did not have any in xxD range until D7000)

1Ds3 vs D3x - 1Ds3 was introduced in August 2007. D3x did not show up until 2009.

1dMk IV vs D3S. This is a more apples to apples comparison (as much as can be). Clearly Canon had a different strategy and Nikon another. Now we know that Nikon's strategy was better but 1DMkIV is no slouch and is doing well in its intended market.

1dx vs D4. Spec for spec 1Dx stands out, why do you think D4 is better? Of course neither has shipped so we dont know about IQ which will be the real test

5dm3 vs D800. Wow The poor camera has not even been announced and you have already dished it !

I could really care less about spec for spec. It's more for my intended use.

I thought all Nikonions stood by their D700 12.1 mp because it's low light was revered. Reports are already stating the D800's noise @ 3200 and 6400 is bad (source: engadget).

5D Mark II doubled it's MP and had better noise performance from it's predecessors'. I wouldn't mind keeping the same 21.1 sensor, adding 1DX AF, Dual card slots, new metering and a few other features that have been featured on other cameras.

I also would love to have a battery grip that offered another joystick too.

I still think FPS we'll be sub-5FPS because it would gimp the 1DX market. I expect a 25MP sensor with great noise performance even @ 25600. But who am I? No one.

I'd be more interested in 5D Mk III that incorporates a 5D Mk II with 7D AF, nothing more. I'll stick with my 5Dc if they don't pull that off. :)

I think the 1dx is the limiting factor for Canon in specifying the 5dm3, I just can't see them cannibalising the sales of a newly released 1dx
