Found this lens is sharper than my old Mark 1 but still couldn't justify the $1000 difference

This is wide open

In other words you rented it, or bought and sold? I bought this lens too but ended up returning it, as I wasn't impressed. Yes, it's sharp at f2.8. However, my primes are sharper across the whole frame at 2.8 and still open up to 1.4 to allow in 4x the light. Additionally, the 24-70 II is a beast to carry around for everyday shooting.

I bought it, actually the insurance replaced my mark I to mark II

:D

Very happy with the IQ of the lens, much sharper but... plastic body o.O, doesn't feel like a 'tank' compare to my old Mark I

I felt bad for my 16-35mm, been using more often the 24-70 for my landscape.

Took me quite a while to get decent results with this lens (I seem to be an IS kinda guy) and then even longer to like it. But here are two from this weekend worth posting. Both processed in LR and scaled down for the web.

Just realized that second image, although displayed in the public, had a sign on it to Please Do Not Photograph. I did not notice until after I got home as I was so concentrated on the art. But likely should respect that enough not to post it online.
