It should be fine, but you have a 36 or was it 38mm-112mm range on a APS-C sensor.

I used the MK I on my 7D. The thing that ticked me off was no W/T micro adjust. I only had one if I recall. So you have to set it to where you shoot most often and for me that was around 40mm on the crop.

Lighter, but not that much lighter:

EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM: 33.6 oz. / 950g

EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM: 28.4 oz. / 805g

Fast zooms are not light due to all that large dia. high quality glass in them and the supporting structure for an "L".

try holding a 5KMk3 & 70-200MkII for 2-3 hour shoot.. ;) Your right shoulder and forearm can get tired...

I recall feeling like such a wimp when I went on the wonderful boat/hike tour that sets out from the Many Glacier hotel at Glacier NP. A small-framed young woman from a local newspaper went on the hike with us: she had two 5D II's hanging around her neck, one with a 24-70 and the other with a 70-200 f/2.8. Just watching her in action wore me out (I was sporting a non-gripped 5D II with a lightweight Sigma 50mm f/1.4).

BTW, my 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM is due to arrive this afternoon. Very excited! :) If it's what I expect, then I'll be selling the Zeiss 21mm, which is a bit of a bummer, but the Zeiss will likely fall into disuse if the 24-70 II is what I think it is. Based on Photozone's tests, the Zeiss 21mm is slightly more even in its sharpness across the frame, but the 24-70mm II is, overall, at least as sharp if not sharper. I'm looking forward to the comparison though. :)

5D Mark III + EF 24-70mm F/2.8 L II USM is my dream gear. However, i don't have enough money to purchase both of them now.

Is 5D Mark II used + EF 24-70mm F/2.8 L II USM (100% new) a good idea?

When I bought mine, the sales rep said how much he loved the v2 and it made his 5DII look better :)

Yes: it is a good idea. :) The 5D III is a wonderful camera, but if funds don't suffice then a used 5D II or new 6D are excellent alternatives. I think I prefer a 6D over the 5D II: better high ISO performance, AF performance, and slightly improved dynamic range. Either is a strong alternative that would make an excellent partner to the 24-70 II for creating great looking images. The 5D III's improved AF system is the main standout feature missing from the 5D II or 6D. Image-quality-wise all three are about the same thing at base ISO settings.

^^^ I have a 6D and used to own the 5D2 for a few years. I agree, the 6D is a much better camera all round than the 5D2. Is the 5D3 worth double the price... Having used them both side by side, I couldn't justify the difference so bought the 6D.
