The Sleeper

Does anyone like this idea for a picture. Life slows down a little bit for us with our four kids in the winter, and so instead of just chasing the kids from one thing to another with the camera I sometimes try to come up with ideas for something new.

My son and I tried this one out in his bedroom this weekend. Let me know what you think.

Thanks. I wanted this unusual perspective from directly overhead. There is a short stepladder on the side of the bed that I climbed and I'm holding the camera out (with UWA lens) at arm's reach pointing it straight down.

I kind of struggled with the lighting, and I'm still sort of so-so on this result. I wanted a strong contrast that would appear as from a small lamp in the room near the bed. So I started this with a single flash through a shoot-through umbrella just off to the side on the right, level with the bed. I added a second flash bouncing the ceiling at -1.5 stops to keep the shadows in the quilt from going totally black

I also ran seamless black paper around the walls to the top and left to eat all the light and make the adjacent wall disappear.

The lighting is what I still kind of am thinking about. Maybe I should have put the main light higher and further back to reduce the falloff, but I'm not sure.
