Pretty jet (and a nice shot), but will it have the legs of an Orion?

Cant wait to see it with SLAM-ERs on the wings. Ha! An armed 737, what good fun.

Why would it need them? Isnt the Navy is proposing using BAMS and P-8 in conjunction? Use the endurance of BAMS and the speed and armament of a P-8. Plus the P-8 has in flight refueling capability ;)

Not being critical, I just remember that the P-3 could shut down two engines and stay on station forever. AAR certainly addresses that question. Will it have internal weapons bays or hardpoints?

Mhm2526....it will have 2hardpoints per wing for mines etc and a weapons bay behind the wing for the torpedos and "the other thing".

Yes - they would shut down two engines...then come back and declare an emergency because the couldn't get one or both started. Procedures required them to declare. I guess they won't be able to shut two down and this bird! ;) Nice shot!

No, it won't have the legs, but it will have the speed and then some. It also will carry more than enough 'stuff' to make it worthwhile. Although, you have to remember they fly 737s from the mainland to Hawaii these days.

when I was in jacksonville, it was weird seeing a 737 circling over head or flying so low..... definitely doesn't look as good (or sound) as good as a P3

That's just how it goes... Look, they fly 737s to Hawaii and 757s across the pond (hell, they fly A318s across the pond). The days of 40% LF widebodies flying transcon are gone.

Nice capture
Might be a P3 replacement but there's no way it'll replace fully the capability of the P3. I fail to see how a twin engine jet can replace the 4 engine turbo prop.
Any one else think along these lines? Is this really as capable as the P3.
We'll have them by 2020 it's said.

Wont have the legs and only just faster top speed. P3 top speed is 411kts.
P8 top speed 490 kts
Legs are where it counts when chasing subs or elint.

Nice catch!

I haven't seen too much on the P-8 program but for a country like Canada where those long legs of the P-3 are required... there is no replacement yet. At least not for our Sovereignty Patrols across the Arctic. Then again, we still fly the Sea King.
