Hi guys, i have just started photo shooting for about a year now, and wish to upgrade from my kit lense (18-55mm).

My equipment consist:
1) T2i body
2) 18-55mm kit lense
3) 50mm f1.8
4) 100mm f2.8 macro

i like to take photos of landscapes( light and day ), macro( plants ), and just general purpose( walk around and shoot anything that i find interesting ).

(1) 24-70mm f2.8L vs (2)24-105mm f4L IS:
(1) pro: faster and better in low lights, with lower number f stop.
(2) pro: more focal length and IS.

i would like to listen to the suggestions you guys have from choosing one of these two lense. I think to me, the most most important thing is image quality( sharpness ). i am wondering if i will even use the f2.8 if i had the 24-70, because if i'm indoor with low light, i can just switch to my f1.8 prime (better for portraits). For the 24-105mm, i don't know if the IS is really that useful or not. just a reminder, i use T2i, so its a crop frame camera and the sharpness of the image is most important to me. many thanks!

17-55 2.8 IS (better all-rounder on crop vs the two lenses in the subject)
10-22 (for your landscape)
Speedlight (for better pictures :) even with your current gear )

before those two lenses IMO :)

Get the best lens for your camera, ie 17-5x from Canon, Sigma or Tamron.

Forget the L......

Thanks for the replies! I'm thinking about getting a better lens (L) because i will upgrade to a 5D mark II in half a year or soon.

my suggestion, get the speedlight now ...

save until you can buy both the FF body and L lens together, no sense in buying and using snow tires now for when winter comes along later in the year.

IMO, you should learn more about photography and how to work with your equipments before spending money on any gears. Some photography books maybe the best things for you to spend on now. Remember, gears will help you to take good photos only if you know how to use them; and skill is the most important of all.

instead of the direct flash from your pop-up flash the above two speedlites allows you to creatively bounce the light off the ceiling, wall, etc.

the 11-16 will work on a full frame camera, but not the way it should ...
thestone above is correct, hold off buying gear til you know what you really need.

but IMO, everybody needs a speedlite ...

or two or three :)

I have a t3i and HAD... A 50 1.4, and HAD the 100mm macro, now getting the 100L.

I decided to go with the 24-105L over the brick on range alone, if that extra stop of 2.8 is really.... Really.... Really....... That neccassary, bust out your 50mm 1.8.... Or use flash :)

Keep using your current stuff until you figure out what upgrades will suit you best. Then upgrade.

Many on here say the EF-S 17-55 is the best crop lens, but I don't use the wide end that much and I find 50mm or 55mm on the long end very limiting. I had a 17-55 for all of one day and sent it back. The 24-105L has worked out great for me. You need to decide which lens works for what you want to do.

Now if you want to spend some money now, I agree with getting a flash first.

On the assumption that one of these lenses is the best choice for you, I would suggest the 24-105 is he best choice. I have had both lenses side by side and in terms of sharpness, distortion etc., I find them equal. The longer range has clear advantages and the one stop you will lose will not matter if you are primarily shooting landscapes at f/8 and higher. They are both very good lenses and match up beautifully with the 5D Mkii.
