Hello Pros! I need some advice! I'm going to be shooting school/class photos very soon. I'm going to have enough lights and the environment will be good for shooting. But I'm wondering though what would be your best recommendation for lens to use for this type of shoot. I have a Canon T3i.

I'm not using any triggered flash strobe lights, instead I'm using always-on Tungsten lamps. I have the Canon EF-S 18-55mm & Canon EF-S 55mm-250mm. I realize that the 55mm will not be used, but will the kit lens be enough?

Thanks everyone!

I think this question is better suited for the Equipment Talk section of the forum. You might get more views and responses there.

I'll answer anyway. Between the 18-55 and the 55-250, you have a pretty wide focal range that you are already covering.

With your T3i and these 2 lenses, I really don't think you need to go spend big bucks on another lens.

#1 Is this a paid gig or does it have the potential to be a paid gig?
#2 What is limiting you with your current lenses that you feel you need to upgrade?
#3 If you were to go out and buy a lens, my recommendation would be the 50mm f/1.8 II. A great prime lens that will give you the opportunity to shoot in low light situations if needed. Also, it can be had for around $100.

Good to know! I thought this as well, but wasn't sure.. If I did need different lenses, I was considering renting them for the shoot - they're pretty cheap actually :)

1. Yes, There is profit to be made. I will take pictures of kids and the class photos and make profit on the order overall.

2.None! Considering this is a new shoot for me, I wanted to be sure I had sufficient gear, but I do love the lenses I have. I use them for nearly everything and I'm very satisfied with the results.

3.Any links to exact lenses? Would this be a lens that will require an adapter to fit the t31? I've purchased a Hexanon 50mm f1.8 for my Oly e-pl1, but it's a fixed lens. Same lens?

Thanks for your help - it's very much appreciated!

It won't require an adapter (its EF mount), and it is a fixed lens (with autofocus).

Answered my own question - I'm sorry - you mean something like these.

[disregard links]

I may just do it. The performance of this lens on my e-pl1 is simply amazing in low light - though I wont have this problem during the school photo shoot.
