Helping a friend out with a wedding this coming weekend just so he will have someone to help him with another friend of ours and i never do weddings so i thought i would ask here and see what everyone would recommend

My 2 cameras that i will take
Canon 5d markII
40d

Lenses
canon 24mm 1.4
canon 24-105
85mm 1.2
200mm 2.8
70-200 2.8 IS
Sigma 12-24

I have some bigger lenses and another wide angle that will work better with the 5d but wasn't sure if i would need to go much wider

Thanks for any suggestions

Bring them all with the exception of the 200 2.8. Use whatever the shot that you're envisioning requires.

My go-to lenses at every wedding are my 24 f/1.4, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.4 and 70-200 f/2.8.

I agree with the above... leave the 200 at home.. and once you move inside, leave the 24-105 in the car.

How experienced are you with weddings? If you aren't, then I'd just take the 24-105 and 70-200 and leave it at that. If you are well experienced, bring the whole lot.

5D2 + 24-105
40D + 70-200

I would also bring the 24L and 85L.

Does your friend have an UWA? If not, bring the 12-24.

Leave the 200 at home.

You have a speedlight? Bring that too.

Every suggestion has been good, but it also really depends on the lighting.

Outdoor, midday ceremony - 24-105 all day.
Dark church ceremony - go primes.

If you're just second shooting there's no need to haul around a bunch of gear. Ask your friend what he wants you to bring. Most of the time I shoot 80% of weddings/receptions with my 5DII and 24-105.

Same suggestion here. For starters, this is what I would recommend especially when the ceremony is held inside a church. Some churches limit areas where you can shoot and that means distance from the couple. Flexibility in capturing the important parts of the ceremony is important for me, which is why I prefer to use zooms during ceremonies. You'll do fine with with an f4 lens on your 5D Mkii.

Then on the reception, it's pretty much open and you'll have more freedom to compose and shoot. Perfect for primes.

- Just my 2 cents :D
