What equipment are you shooting with? Looks like a lot of these are way underexposed.

Also, I would only display pictures that are keepers. I see a lot of shots with no ball, some with backs, and some with nothing going on at all.

cool
canon 40D
Canon 70-200 2.8

I usually post anything which looks decent
I have had people buy some what I thought were bad pics
but does posting poor pics reduce the quality of my seen work
in favor of letting people have more choices?

If I only post good ones it may be only 1 or 2
I delete about 75% any way that never see the web

I will be brutal.

I am not interested in spending more time than is necessary to view your photos to critique them.

To much work on my part to try and find your photos. Post them here or give a link that does not require a search on my part.

I am no expert but WB is way out on some of them in my opinion; same as others to complex and too many to look through also some of them I think look like miss shots but hey if people buy them :)

Wow, you asked for brutal but I will just try and be honest. It looks like you posted every photo you took, regardless of whether it was a keeper or not. Firstly, you need to cut down on how many photos you decide to post IMO. If it's only a handful, then it's only a handful. Better to have people look at 10 good photos than have to wade through a sea of bad ones to find the good ones. Look, no one goes out and has every photo turn out exactly right, it's just a fact of being a photographer. You could also use some work on cropping as some are awkwardly composed. As for how they look, the WB is way off on some and they're underexposed for the most part, so it's hard to really get past that. But hey, it was your first time, so don't get too down about it. Keep trying, keep pushing and you'll get better.

thanks ElRey. I didnt post everyone I took. I deleted a ton. Im just afraid if I dont post them they cant see them to buy. And Ive had people buy some really crappy shots because it was all I had of their kid. I dont know a happy medium. But I must get better. But I understand and agree. It should be quality which I dont think I have any. I know all of them wont be great. I would like a couple lol. Sadly I'll get one that fairly decent dont change anything and get 50 ones that are terrible. Im shooting basically 5 days a week. Not many games on Wed or Sun. I know I have serious WB problems. Its a huge weakness. And I have no clue on the custom WB. Hold a white card up, shoot it and then somehow save custom WB settings? Underexposure is bad I know also. Everyone seems to shoot at 1600-3200 at say f4 at 500 or something like that. Ive tried that. basically a black sandstorm. TY for the encouragement. Ill keep shooting as bad as they are.

Number #1, you've got to shoot wide open, regardless of whether it's day or night. There's a reason the lens is 2.8 throughout the zoom range. Only on rare occasions would you want to shoot sports at anything but the max aperture. There are always exceptions, but 2.8 is where you want to be, especially to get the fastest shutter speed you can. As for WB, it's going to be tough at night because the lights will leave parts of the field darker than other parts, so it's going to mess with your exposure and WB. My advice would be to get a grey card, they're cheap at any camera store, and grey card it.

I agree if the white balance issues. Check this video out to how to set custom white balance for 40D. http://www.wonderhowto.com …ce-with-canon-40d-298688/ (external link) It's real easy to set custom white balance. If you ever want to learn something just google a question, and usually get your answers. Pictures are under exposed increase your ISO, and shoot at a minimum speed at 500. Also shoot at F/2.8...This will increase your brightness. You want to stop the action. Ball should be a slight blur. I shoot my images at night in RAW, and can adjust the brightness in Photoshop. Helps when you shoot in crappy lit high school fields. You can do multiple images as well. I agree, you need to edit your pics. Too many shots. You want to be known for quality not quantity.

You should be shooting at 2.8, but since you have a 70-200 you'll have to wait for the action to come to you, don't machine gun it and try to crop.

As far as the number of pictures, would you rather have people think you are a bad photographer with all the bad shots out there? Or a good one with just a few pictures. Don't worry, I come away with probably 100 decent pictures from a full soccer game. But like I said you need to be picky about when to shoot. Only shots with faces and with the ball in the frame.

No easy way to learn, but to go out and shoot. Work on focus and exposure first. When you nail that, then work on composition and timing.
