I did not leave 7D for 5DII. I added 5DII. Those two bodies have very different capabilities. I use 7D for wildlife and 5DII for landscapes/stilllife.

I sold my 7D & 10-22 to fund the 5D2.

i do miss the 7D though but for what i shoot, the 5D2 is a better camera for me. the 7D is definately a much newer camera and you'll notice that the moment you start using the 5D2.

i just couldn't justify keeping the 7D in the end but i did think of keeping them both to 'double up' my lenses :)

for what you're shooting, i'm thinking you'll love the 5D2, especially with the price of the 5D2 right now.

When and how much did you sell yours?

i sold my 1.5 year old 7D (that still had 2 years of extended warranty i bought) for $1300CAD (had all receipts, boxes, etc).

i also sold my Canon 10-22mm without a box for $650CAD (bought this off Craigslist).

so i ended up picking up the 5D2 for $1999 CAD before taxes.

this was done around early December 2011 :)

very much apples and oranges. Neither makes a great replacement for the other...if you really used what the first body could do.

Although I'm a 7D user, the 5DII would be the wise choice for landscape & portraiture.

I've got both (7D & 5DMKII) and as many others have mentioned, they make a great combo for just about EVERYTHING you want to shoot. Either/Or ... better yet, BOTH!

If you can afford and justify having both, get both. But if you can't do it the 5D II, IMO, would better suite what you are shooting.

I have the 7d now and love it for shooting my fast moving kids. I plan on adding the 5D II later this year, when people unload them to switch to the D800 ;).

I own both the 7D and 5D2. The 5D2 captures far better quality images with much less noise. The 7D has better AF and other nice features. I think the 7D is by far the best crop sensor body out there and I enjoy having both bodies.

+1 for this. I went from a 550D to the 7D and then added the 5D2 and passed the 550D to the wife. Best move I made was getting the 5D2, at the moment I use the 5D2 about 90% of the time, but come summer I'm sure it'll even up a bit.
