"The Marble"--It's hard to show scale, but the round granite boulder is huge, about the size of a house:

All the cracks in the granite are caused by earthquakes. The San Andreas fault runs through the park. Note the cave:

Very nice group of images; looks like a place to fill a CF card or two - ;)
Love the "Marble" and Skull rock.

We only spent one day at Joshua Tree but loved it. They're all good but I really like #5 & #7.

Thanks to all for the replies. Just a tip that I wish I'd have gotten before I went---it really is an evening location for photography. All the major landmarks face to the west and with all the air pollution from nearby LA you get some really good light. I was there morning, evening, morning and should have spent one morning and two evenings. Edwards Air Force Base is right next door, so contrails are a constant problem. Being from Phoenix, the "Colorado" (Sonoran) Desert section of the park, which is by far the largest area-wise, held no particular interest---it looks like my front yard! But the Mojave section is excellent and most of the attractions are there and in the transition zone. Its a very easy place in which to get lost, so take your GPS and fresh batteries.

Love the colors and textures you captured in this series but the sky in #1 doesn't look right.

On second look I agree--kinda purplish-blue. I wanted to darken the background so the light hitting the yucca and joshua tree would really stand out but something went wrong. Back to the drawing board!;)

Here is a bigger shot of "The Marble" to give a better sense of scale. The wall is about 10 stories high:
