All I have:
Prime: 85, 100 macro & 135
Zoom: 17-40, 24-105, 28-300

If only ONE lens I can have: have to be the 85

If only ONE lens for travelling: 28-300 and I miss NONE.
So, I take my 85 and 28-300 for travel

If only 3 I keep: all prime I own.

If 5 all I can have: 35, 85, 100 macro, 135 & 28-300

So, I'm going to get a 35

No more ZOOOOMmmmmm (Had 70-200 and traded for 85)

Canon 5D3 + Zoom (EF 17-40L, 24-105L & 28-300L, 100-400L II) & Prime (24L II, 85L II, 100L, 135L & 200 f/2.8L II; Zeiss 1,4/35)

I have a 50d and a 18-200mm kit lens. And a 28mm f/ 2.8

Going to buy an 70-200mm f/4 L USM and an 17-40 f/4 L USM. Unless this laptop breaks down. Cause then I am going to be forced to get a new macbook instead of the 17-40.

It's not easy being a student.

...I think after my travels, i'll sell the 17-40 and get a 16-35 f/2.8...

How come? I'm thinking of one of these lenses and travelling to China next year. Any advice would be great.

I had the exact same question in mind... glad I found this thread... 3 LENS I am very seriously considering ..

Canon EF 16-35 f/ 2.8L II USM ULTRA WIDE
Canon EF 25-105MM f/4 L IS USM WALK ABOUT
Canon EF 100-400MM F4.5-5.6L IS USM ZOOM LENS

Will this cover all my bases???

Right now I just have the Canon 28-135MM F/3.5-5.6 IS USM which I am learning the ropes of my camera..

Comments PLEASE on the above list. Any reason to ADD a prime Lens??

How do you feel about using a 28-300 as a general travel lens? It's a nice workhorse range, but does the size of it ever get in the way?

back to topic, this is what I have:
24-105(when I can only bring 1 lens)
21mm Zeiss
35L
MPE-65mm
100mm Zeiss MP

Size and weigh all ok; but I'm rather to hide the 'white' as a traveler.

No major reason, I may even keep it if I fall into a job straight when i'm back. But i'd like a wide lens that I could take clubbing with me and have the f/2.8 :)

I love the 17-40 f/4!

Yeah the f/2.8 is tempting. I think it makes the lens much more versatile as you can shoot indoors and with shallower DOF. The only thing I don't like about the 16-35LII is the 82mm filter size. No 10 stop ND for that without going for a rectangular filter...
