You can't have both. :D

Just what I have, the 135L and 1.4x TC.

My wanted 5th element would be
24-70mm f2.8, or
85mm f1.8, or
200mm f2.8, or
300mm f4 IS

Oh, I nearly missed the lovely 1.4x extender.

Instead of the "Fifth Element," the Fifth Beatle would be someone like Pete Best (former Beatle), Eric Clapton/Billy Preston (played on Beatles records), or George Martin (Beatles producer). :)

Anyhow, my five lens realistic collection would be:
EF-S 10-22
EF-S 17-85
EF 50 1.4
EF 70 - 300
EF 100 - 400L

24-70 L
100-400 L
70-200 L
35 f/2 (small, reasonably fast) or 50 f/1.4 depending on whether it's for APS-C or FF body.
With strictly APS-C, add the 16-35 L; with FF, add the 500 f/4 L instead, with both bodies the 100 mm f/2.8 macro.

I am totally happy and content with my trinity (35L, 85L, 135L) but if I were to add another lens it would probably be the 200f1.8L. I think I will stick with primes (at least for this year!!). The only zoom that interests me somewhat is the new Canon 24-105IS......but f4 is a little slow after getting used to all this fast glass!

Realistically, I want to get the Sigma 24-70 2.8 and the 50mm 1.8 Mk. I. I'd like to get the 70-200 f/4L, too, but it'll be a long time before I can justify the expense. I think I could be satisfied with those lenses, although there are obviously other lenses I'd get if money wasn't an issue.

My "seven" (sorry) would be:

Canon 24 1.4 L
Canon 35 1.4 L
Canon 50 1.4 (Got this one)
Canon 85 1.2 L
Canon 135 2.0 L
Canon 200 2.8 L (Should have this one soon after I sell my 70-200)
Sigma 300 2.8

But I'm buying a 5D first so there's a long wait ahead of me.

Gary.

Hmmm...

16-35 2.8L instead of my 17-40 4L
24-70 2.8L instead of tht 24-105 4L IS
200mm 1.8L well... I'd even give away the lovely 70-200 2.8L for this one
600mm 4L IS instead of the 500mm.... gotta think about that
ah, and a 400 2.8L would rock together with a 200/1.8 and a 600/4 :p

Damn, I think I have to sell my equipment and buy some new glass :o nah wait... gotta win the lottery first.

My collection?

Hm.
18-55 kit
50/1.8
70-300/4-5.6
135/3.5 Sonnar

That would keep me happy. If I had money to sink into photography... I'd take this:

On a crop body:
Sigma 10-20/4-5.6
Sigma 24-70/2.8
Sigma 70-200/2.8
Canon 35/2
Canon 85/1.8

On a full frame body:
Sigma 12-24/4.5-5.6
Sigma 24-70/2.8
Sigma 70-200/2.8
Canon 35/2
Canon 50/1.4
Canon 135/2L

Hm. I'm having a hard time deciding between the 35 and 50 for the full frame. And even the 85 vs 135...

Too much gear...

If you had to choose between 3 and 5 lenses for your collection what would they be?

Dan ;)

Canon 14 2.8L
Canon 24 1.4L
Canon 85 1.2L
Canon 70-200 2.8L IS

Canon 400 2.8L

The lenses on bold is what I currently use 90% of the time. 400mm is only a dream (no way I can afford it), 24mm is something I've wanted for a long time as additional art lens, 14mm is something for architecture shots (I had Sigma 14 but I traded it, would like to have Canon 14).

Here is the list I hope to have when it is all said and done. I am on my way to completing it so I should get there one day. I have seven listed, but I count primes and zooms as seperate creatures all together :)

Canon 14 f/2.8
Canon 35 f/1.4
Canon 50 f/1.4
Canon 85 f/1.2
Canon 135 f/2

Canon 17-40 f/4
Canon 70-200 f/4

I may upgrade my 70-200 to the f/2.8 version but at this time it is unlikely. I plan on covering low light with primes.

If I ever switch to a full frame camera I would look at the 200 f/2.8 also.

hmm. A good question!

My first three:
24-70L
70-200 f/2.8L IS
100-400L IS

Then I'd add
16-35L
500 f/4L IS

and to think I'm one lens away from having what I desire:)
