This is an interesting abstract shot, and you've composed it well according to the rule of thirds. However, it doesn't seem as crisp as it could be. Try shooting with a smaller aperture to get more depth of field.

Something is lacking for me in this photo. It doesn't speak to me. It just looks like a gear on a bicycle. Perhaps it is the lack of color; perhaps it is because it seems shot from an angle.

Thanks for the comments. It was originally a color shot but the bike is white with only a little bit of gray on the frame and with all the other monochrome metal I just thought it would be better to convert to b&w. The original was a bit more contrasty across the color scale. My return input is not to contradict your valued opinion but merely explains my thinking when I did the PP on the shot.

All good input though and I appreciate it.

I agree nice shot maybe could have benefited from shooting at a slightly different angle to bring out the dimensions of the gears stacked upon each other.

When converting to B&W you need to remember that the absence of color makes shadows, highlights, tonal gradation, contrast, etc. much more important. It isn't enough to just take away the color, and many color shots do not convert well.

This is coming from a bike racer and mechanic for over 25 years....

This type of picture will apeal to gear heads like me. The problem I have with it is the subject. This is a middle of the road bike. There are peices of equipment that are a bit distracting...i.e...the plastic spoke guard, the chain stay mounted kickstand.

An oldschool Campy nuevo record rear derailuor or the latest Dura Ace equipment would be much more interesting to the audience that would appreciate a shot like this the most.

I am sure a local bike shop would gladly hook you up with one of these models or something really cool.

Gotcha! It's just a shot of my bike. I'll have to check with the shop where I bought it and haul some of their stuff into the parking lot. Maybe they'll post the prints in their shop.

Thanks!

Here is the original (pre BW shot). I guess it does carry a bit more sharpness than the processed shot. I hadn't looked at them side by side to see what was lost by transitioning to B&W.

Thanks. It does look more brilliant and better focused.
