I was looking around CL at what photo gear people are selling, and I usually pop into gigs to see what kind of hilarity is going on there. Here's what someone is looking for:

I have a need for quality portrait photography for a number of websites I operate or am a part of. Ideally I'd like some quality shots for networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. in addition to about.me and my own personal sites.

I'd like a mix of studio and outdoors (though this may be the wrong time of year for that) and casual/professional outfits. I imagine it will take about an afternoon as you'll only be working with me. I'll handle post production, so I'm looking for the raw shots. Would need copyright for both print and digital to all of the photos.

Please send some examples of your portrait photography, pricing estimates and timelines. Thank you and I look forward to working with you soon!

Just for laughs, I replied (though not with my regular email):

Hello, I saw your ad looking for photography. Here's the price estimate for what you are looking for:

Shooting - $150/hour.
RAW Images Provided - $250/per image
Copyright Transfer - $1000/per image

You can pick the individual images you want so just because I may shoot 50 images doesn't mean you have to purchase all 50 if you don't wish to. Let me know, we can setup a time to meet where I can show you my portfolio.

Wonder if they will respond.

Is that the going rate for "copywrite transfer" I honestly don't know... Someone asked me about it once and after speaking with them, it really wasn't what they wanted anyway.
While I doubt it will happen,, it would be great for you if they said yes to your price and you got some money out of it. :)

I am sure they will get a reply of someone will to do the job for a few 100$'s and give them everything they asked for.

It will be intresting to see what reply you get.

I personally don't see a problem (or reason to sigh). Here is a potential client who knows exactly what he wants and what he wants it for and he posted in search of someone who can provide it. He didn't post what he has budgeted for this so that is an unknown.
If you're interested in the job, instead of responding "just for laughs", I would suggest approaching it as an opportunity to make money....and while that may not happen, sometimes things do pan out and people do get paid.....and I say this as someone who has taken "Craigslist jobs" and received fair compensation. That's my take :)

Well that's my rate for business portraits - shooting discounted because of them wanting RAW/Copyright. But I doubt they will say yes.

I used to respond to more when I was less experienced, and even then the amount they were willing to pay was nowhere near in alignment with what I was willing to accept for the work.

your email confuses me, and I'm a photographer!

So if this guy spends 1 hour shooting and wants 3 final images to use for headshots, you want to charge him $900?

If that's the case and he bites for it, I need to quit my day job and start shooting headshots!

Sure. Because he wants the RAW files. I don't just give those out because I prefer to retain creative control over my images. If he was fine with the standard JPG's then it would be far less.

Not necessarily, he could be an informed consumer who was convinced by someone else's portfolio and lower rates.

Frankly, I might have offered a variation of your package in order to lure a bite:

Shooting - $100/hour + $50 for 1st 10 hi-res JPG, then $10 for each thereafter
--OR--
RAW Images Provided - $250/per image
Copyright Transfer - $1000/per image
