Hi guys,
Quick question. I am currently using Wacom bamboo Fun Pen and touch and I can't imagine working without a tablet. It is superb and totally indispensable in my opinion. Pen tips last me for ages too. I what way would Wacom Intuos4 be better?

Thanks for your input.

Cannot answer directly because I've never seen or used a Bamboo. I can only say that I purchased an Intuos3, give it a week, gave up, put it on a shelf for years.

But recently I purchased an Intuos4 plus the art pen. Love it. Miles above the Intuos3, and when combined with the new capabilities in PSCS5, a killer. Hope that helps.

I went from the Bamboo to the Intuos3 6x11. Mainly for a larger area to draw on, nothing els. Other then that I don't really use the additional buttons that are on the pad. The intuos pads are mainly for designers, animators, illustrators, 3D artists. Unless you find yourself doing lots of tweekin with a brush or pen tool in w/e program, the intuos is not need for photography, but it's nice to have.

I use my Intuos 3 every day, all day, but I have never used the Bamboo. Not sure there would be a major difference but I could never go back to a mouse.

And I woud disagree with Bond_Savingsbond - the tablet is very much a photographer's tool if you use Photoshop for anything. I've recently started using LR3 and the tablet with the brush capability is really quite nice. It is pressure sensitive and very useful.

And the buttons on the Intuos are application specific. I use them for browsing, email, and Photoshop.

The buttons are also programmable. As a photographer working in PS, the buttons are invaluable to me. Using an Intuos pad without utilizing the buttons is missing the advantages of a major feature.

well, Bamboo Pen and Touch has programmable buttons too so I guess there would not be too much of an advantage in spending so much cash on upgrading to Intuos4.

thanks for your replies

I have both a 4 and a bamboo which I use for travel. The 4 is far more programmable than the bamboo. The intuos also recognizes pen tilt where the bamboo doesn't. I wouldn't be without my Intuos4 but the bamboo is better than nothing.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I've been debating this myself, as I have the Bamboo pen and touch. The only thing I see, regarding my usage, is the real estate you gain when if I move over to the Intous 4.

But in LR3, the erase function (flipping over the pen to the eraser side) isn't supported. In PS, it will detect the erase function. Not so in LR3. I hear on Intous 4, that's not a problem.

I just upgraded. My son needed a pad so he got my old Graphire and I upgraded to the Intuos4. It's a really nice pad but so was the Graphire. I use it every day but it really hasn't improved my experience a whole lot. The pressure sensitivity seems to be better. I still haven't incorporated the buttons into my workflow so I can't comment on those. And I like the button to activate and change the brush style/size better than the double tapping of the Graphire. Other than that, They are pretty much the same when it comes to using them.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

In LR3 on a Mac with my Intuos3 you can hold down the option key to switch to erase.

You can hold down the alt key to shift.

But I've heard that, with the Intous 4 tablet, you can just flip the pen around to erase.

But using the key command is just as fast.
